So does that mean that someone will get 2 summers or 2 winters in a row? Or spring/fall for that matter?  Or just simply replace the N with S and the E with W on the maps?

LOL...  Trust the science so.... maybe.

The interesting thing I find is many of us will not really know where north is for a while.

Here’s a brain bender:

If the earth is a globe and you’re traveling north wouldn’t you eventually be traveling south?

But if the poles shift while you're traveling south, wouldn't you be going north?

West, that is if you're still looking at the horizon.

Maps, terrian association, pace count, stars, using the sun an shadows. Basic boy scout stuff.

The same as magnetic declination now, just extreme.

Very, very doubtful; though since it hasn't happened in recorded history it isn't known for certain. To change the seasons the earth's inclination would have to change, and just reversing the magnetic field almost certainly won't do that. The earth has an immense moment of inertia, and to change the inclination you literally need to make the earth move.

SOOOO what you are really saying with this thread is that the south will rise again!

there are major advances in satellite navigation and super accurate mapping coming down the road

we are talking centimeter level of accuracy.

old school radio navigation is still a thing.

land marks and existing mapping will do for any personal movement in the first few days

society and our tech base will quickly get things back on track navigation wise

Something catastrophic happened 10,000-12,000 years ago that reshaped the earth and some people think it was a polarity shift. I think Yellowstone vented in a big way and melted a massive amount if glacier but lots of interesting theories.

The Sahara was a rain forest and a huge chunk of North America was covered by ice at that time. A lot of human history got washed away and buried in flooding and it’s only been recently we started understanding evidence of it.

There’s not much that survives after 10,000 years, especially with mass flooding. If humans disappeared today there would be little evidence left of us after that long.

dumb, its really not a big deal...

no 400 ft waves or any of that shit... just technology issues......maybe...

In terms of human civilization, it is not the shifting of the magnetic poles that is directly concerning, but the resulting period of reduced geomagnetic field intensity. Society is growing increasingly reliant on technology, and the effects of a reduced magnetic field intensity should be seriously considered by governments and international organizations.

"In this configuration there would be a notable increase in the penetration of charged particles into the magnetosphere at altitudes closer to the Earth's surface, with important repercussions on our technological world," adds Sagnotti.

further boring reading, no exciting godzillas and 400 ft waves or mega quakes as the earlier doomers want you to think
