I've seen a lot of burglarized houses and B&Es. Probably over a hundred. They usually kick in the door. Occasionally a window is broken. Sometimes a lock is shimmed if there is now deadbolt. Padlocks get cut (never signs of power tools on this) or the latch gets pryed off. I've seen one or two cases where lockpicking was the possible method (padlocks completely missing from sheds).
I have never seen anyone enter a a house by cutting their way in. I also work in town, so density of houses may deter such methods. If a door doesn't give after a couple kicks, most burglars (certainly not all) are probably going to be deterred. They don't want to get make a bunch of noise/take too long and get caught.

I think you hit on one big problem with the one-size-fits all answers we give in these threads. I live in an area where the houses are far enough apart that breaking glass would go completely unnoticed. Driveways are 150' long. I have several driveway alarms that give early warning. Trying to 'harden' the house would be way to difficult and time consuming. One hell of lot easier to have good insurance....
In my hood, everybody has something like this for a front door -- rock, kick, etc. :
Something like this in the back - crow bar, rock, etc. :
Garage door with glass - break glass, pull release:
Curious note about these doors:
I bought a house near the college for my kids. The garage door needed to be replaced and I told the guy I would have somebody there when they came.
"Do you have glass?"
"Yes"
"Don't worry about it, we will break the glass and get in that way..."
SOP for them.
