Originally it was the name of a character I made for an old school pen and paper RPG when I was a teenager. Yes, I am/was that much of a nerd.
I started using it as a name in online forums back then and it was just easy to keep using it on any new forum I signed up for. These days I don't even think about it when I make a username. I default to it. It is also my XboxLive name, though I haven't done any online gaming in almost 3 years now. |

Steven Saylor wrote a series of books about "Gordianus the Finder", a private detective type in the Rome of 100 BC.
I was in the detective bureau when the first novel came out and was reading it at work. It stuck. |

My cold dead hands rifle.
ETA: when on active duty with the Marine Corps I went to Denmark as they were using the front line G3 rifles to arm the REMF's and issuing the HK33 for the front line guys they were stacking these M1's on pallets and were handing them up to ship back to the states. I would joke with the armorers that no one would miss one or two. I got mine via the CMP. |

Remember the HP Pavilion computers? Well, I needed a screen name and then the numbers are my birth year.

Heuristic....
I have no idea where I got it from. Its Greek for ideas, problem solving, and learning for a solution based on a set of goals. |

It's the name I picked when playing Dragon Warrior 2 on the Nintendo 20+ years ago. I used it because it was more private than using my first initial and last name. I don't need to be linked to my posts :-)

Character from a moderately popular book by Ayn Rand. Burned everything he worked for before he would hand it over to the government.

Love the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark and I was in an online gaming group years ago called Band of Brothers (BOB).

Back in 95, my wife suggested that I use her pet name for me. I've used it as my online persona everywhere ever since. My real name is Mark. Usually with 3 k's.

People have called me "Red" all my life because of my flaming red hair. Big stretch, huh. Fucking bully kids couldn't think of anything original. Pissed 'em off I liked it and started calling myself that. Carved it in one shoulder with a razor and soldering iron, with the help of an old shipmate. In my Navy days, I had a big, UA, UNSAT, out of regs mustache and my buddy said I looked like Fu-man-chu. They started calling me Red-man-chu. Stupid fat kids didn't realize I liked it. I had 'RED' on my nametape for 90% of my uniforms. Hell, my skipper thought it was my real name for a while. It has been my online moniker, well since the internet, and a little bit of the online community before then. I think I have a pen and paper RPG charater or two with the name, too.

I am of Cherokee lineage. This is the Creek word that was pronounced as Cherokee by the english speakers. It means, people of another language. I used it because it is unique and you don't have to be real creative trying to avoid duplicating someone elses handle.

Built my first AR in 08. BTW I learned a lot from SF and Build it yourself at that time. I had a overly huge scope on that AR. It was like a 6-16x50. I realized it was Over Scoped |

I used to Ice Fish, a lot. Hours upon hours and days upon days of sitting on a bucket gives your back pains, a.k.a. "Bucket Back"

I was impressed by a complete computer on a single dip chip that would run for a year on single button battery, and talked about it.

I had a chilli bowl hair cut decades ago. And "an ort is a scrap of food" from those old standardized tests. I don't recall how they got combined but it became part of a nickname. And one I really didn't like. Back when the internet tubes were a new thing I had to make an email address and chilort is what I decided to use. It is nice because it doesn't actually mean shit and is very unique. It has some level of meaning for me and long-term friends, which made it easy to remember. I only use it for forums these days.

Centuries ago, Dutch settlers came to New Amsterdam and headed north to new adventures....
First they killed all the fish and called it Fishkill, so then they moved on and killed all the Plattes.... Hence, history. |

It's a line from a Bugs Bunny cartoon and the year of my birth.
Elmer Fudd is singing "kill the wabbit" opera style. |

My Indian name was "He who flees from creditors" and it just seemed too long, so I went with my wife's pet name for me.
