I just recently (tonight) discovered that three cases (36 cans) of regular SPAM went bad. All cans bloated. Expiration date was SEP2014. Kept inside house. View Quote Pics or we cant believe you..... |

Damn...sorry, too late. Already out with the trash. We don't fool around with bloated cans.
ETA: If I get home before the trash truck gets here, I'll take pics. |

Expiration date was 9/14? Wouldn't you think Hormel would refund/replace their prematurely expired product?

I had issues with a can of Hormel corned beef hash, emailed their customer service, got a buttload of coupons for free products in response. Mr. Tigers, if it's not too late I'd yank it out of the trash and take a pic to back up your claim, then email the company. |

I had a couple of cans do that.
Was going to take em back because they were well within the expiration date. I just kept forgetting them and was afraid to feed to dogs so I trashed them. |

Has anyone tried the jalepeno spam yet? I picked up a can but every time I look at it I have visions of horrible rot gut.

I always laugh when I hear the nay sayers when it comes to Spam. It's basically a chopped pork/ham loaf, and some folks make it out to be a terrible thing! I'm betting they likely say the same thing about MREs as well!
All foods of this nature can never be expected to be the same as the fresh cooked stuff. It's a case of live with it, or do without! |

I like it fried, with some melted cheese on top, dang yummy sammich that.

View Quote Yes my wife and I have tried it, it's the only SPAM my wife likes now. It's not particularly hot, but it definitely adds a subtle taste. ETA: We bought a can back with it had "Limited Edition" on the label. I e-mailed Hormel, they replied that they have decided to make it a regular flavor now. |

Can you freeze Taylor Ham? View Quote Yes. I usually just buy the little pre sliced vacuum packs because I'm the only one in the house that eats it. When I was a kid we bought the whole role. Kind of like salami with a canvas casing. "Pork Roll FAQ Frequently Asked Questions: Q. Can you freeze Pork Roll? A. Yes, you can freeze it as well as all of our other products From the FSIS: Freezer storage length of time is for quality only. Frozen foods remain safe indefinitely. Item Months Bacon and Sausage (Similar) - 1 to 2 months Ham, Hotdogs and Lunchmeats – 1 to 2 months" |

We want to buy whole loafs when it is on special.
Slice it up on the meat slicer and vacuum pack it in packages. Cheaper than buying prepackaged products. |

OP, were all 3 cases stored in the same place?
Maybe next to a heat source? I can see 1 can going bad, but 36 at the same time suggests there were other factors at work. |

My Spam stash expires this month, but the cans look fine.
Regardless, that stuff is going into the garbage. The thought of consuming it makes me |

I'd be willing to pay a flat rate usps box if it was stuffed full of SPAM ! Maybe like a Pay it forward kind of thing. Over 25K people live out of a dump in Seol Korea I think I can eat a can of unbloated spam. |

View Quote Its not 1 million Scoville units hot but it does have a nice sproing to it once you bite into it. I like to dice it up, fry it with onions and add it to eggs. Rolled up inside a tortilla it makes a nice breakfast burrito. |

Spam is pretty good when done properly. Most people probably just think spam as in opening the can only to watch it make that sucking sound as it comes out of the can coated in the clear jelly substance then just eat as is... Gross..
In Hawaii the best way is called Spam "musubi" you get it at any grocery store or gas station in the morning. Kind of like the breakfast of champs. When prepared like that- it would be hard to say no. They also have spam on the Mcdonalds breakfast menu in Hawaii, if you are hardcore and into the spam eggs and rice breakfast platter |

Black pepper Spam is good too, so is turkey Spam. Teryaki Spam is the best imho, you don't even have to fry it.
A whole case going bad, especially before the expiration data, is a big deal. Hormel would have been interested in that case because it should never happen. |
