A number of years ago, someone came out with a tiny portable gas powered generator for camping. I think it was 200-300W, maybe smaller. It was often pictured in the ads next to a coffe cup. I don't think the whole thing was more than about 9" square and weighed under 10 lbs. It had a 2-cycle engine and I am guessing that it was Chinese.

Anyone remember the name and who made this?

I can't see it being very useful at 2-300 watts except for charging a battery.

This one belonged to my father. Must be well over 20 years old. I consider it a gas powered battery charger.

That was called the Power Pony. It was a 300W generator that claimed to have an 8 hr. run time on a gallon of gas. They listed around $300 around '99.

I believe they went TU after Y2K.

I had one.

It was LOUD, and didn't put out much power. Enough for a little TV and to charge a deep cycle.

I sold it for what I paid for it.

I still have a Power Pony...dont run it anymore I have a 4000w that I use on occasion...it was handy though...I was able to run a small window unit air conditioner with it but nothing else at the same time...

I don't think it was the Power Pony. The one I remember was smaller. I may have some old magazines in my basement and I will try and find an ad.

Bought a Power Pony in 1998 and have used it and loaned it out. Good for camping and charging batteries [with a Vector 20 amp charger or similar].

It's 2 cycle and you have to mix the fuel. Not a bad little genny for what it does.

Pretty lightweight.

My EU2000 will go almost that far on a gallon of gas as it runs on half idle (or whatever they call it). MUCH more power in reserve, but also MUCH more dollars up front.

Not a very fair comparison.

I my experience with a Power Pony, they rate it at one gallon per 8 hours at ~300 watts load.

At small loads, it does about like my Honda EU1000 at no load.

running with the ECO mode ON - I have gotten right at 10 hours of of a tank full of fuel.. Im thinking its about a 1 gal tank - but I may be wrong..

I have a Ohlsson & Rice Tiny Tiger that is 300 watts that is a neat little 2 cycle. Maybe this one is the one you are thinking of. The engine looks like a model airplane engine but is a lot quieter. The engine is tiny and the generator part is the size of a import car alternator.It has always been reliable and starts as easy as my Honda EU2000. Here is a site with a picture of one.I bought spare parts for it from the manufacturer in 1992 qand received them in a couple weeks. I'm wondering if they are still in business?
