BoatUS published an interesting article on Lightning Strikes that I thought was a good read.

I can't get the tables to load, but here's an interesting map of lightning strikes

I know a few boaters that have been struck by lightning while on the open water, and it's always been a significant concern for me.  My boat is 50'+, has a 23' mast (if the antennae is folded down), and is entirely electronically controlled (common rail).  Needless to say this is a pretty serious concern for me.  I'll try to add some additional lightning prevention and protection articles as I come across them!

Have you done any reading on what is called a "cone of protection"?
