Caught in the sea of Cortez. I thought it was a white sea bass. Tasted awful though. Any ideas?

Looks like a speckled trout, black spots all down the dorsal fins?

Dammit. It's from 3 years ago I can't make the picture any better. Sorry. Fail.

The speckled trout is a gulf fish. I've never heard of them in Baja. But that picture sure matches up decently.

Definitely looks like a speckeled trout to me. If it didn't have black spots at all, then it very well could be a silver trout.

It's near Loreto Baja Mexico. I think it's gotta be the shortfin corvina. Google image sure thinks so.

Cynoscion is the genus you're looking for.

Weakfish, Corvina, and Speckled Trout (not really a trout, BTW) - all Cynoscion, in the drum family Sciaenidae.
