Saturday morning, I'd like to wring out this 7200 digital interface.  It was giving me problems, and crashed fldigi during the Wed. net.  Good exercise in thinking on my feet, it just stopped a few seconds into my check in but I was able to get it running again and complete the QSO

I re loaded the drivers and installed the latest fldigi, we'll see if that works.

Hit me up in this thread for a QSO, I'll play JT65 off and on today and check this thread periodically

There's a useful beacon near me...

You got anything on 14313? He's right in my backyard. Piccolo observed he makes a pretty good beacon for the east coast

fldigi is acting funky.
when I transmit the waterfall slows down to a crawl. It eventually crashed.

I'll throw out a few CQs, see if you can hear/decode me.

I can hear you. fldigi is giving a 'port audio 2 error" and the usb driver seems to be quitting when I transmit. try it again, I've got it running.

I suspect a driver problem. This is the same behavior of the other night.

now my network connection is flaking out. I picked a bad night to quit sniffing glue.

Good audio copy, faint in the waterfall, no decode

TNC - are you OK on 20m?  You sure it isn't RFI to your PC?

That's a real possibility. The USB driver drops out when I transmit, most of the time. Once in a while it will work OK. Making a few adjustments...

How's that sound? It's done 2 transmits without crashing.

... got something in the waterfall now

ETA (sheepishly) grounding matters. That's all I'm gonna say.

antenna gain is best gain! I built an OCFD from the thread in the ham forum, it has worked really well for me. It started out low, and short, with a cut-rate balun. Recently I rebuilt it cut for 80 m, with a Balun Designs balun (recommended here on the forum) which is a very nice piece of kit. I can highly recommend it!

Thanks for the RF tip. I had failed to drag my ground strap over here when I set up this rig. It works fine on 20m but 40 m gives me a little RF on a set of speakers nearby. I believe it was glitching the USB port on transmit.  There was also a homebrew 1:1 balun I was playing with in the feedline, so that might've been part of the problem.

Good QSO TNC!

I'll get one of my new cards out to you on Monday, I filled it out while waiting for your response to decode.

You might also try a shielded USB cable, or one of a different length... or both.

We were on 7114.

If your receiver will tune 20m, there are a few nets on there which set a good example for operations. The one I like monitoring is the maritime mobile net at 14.300. If there are active VHF/UHF nets in your area, listening to them will give you a great introduction to radio etiquette.

To play in HF, work toward your general license. The tacked threads here in the forum are a great resource, and we have members here who are great teachers.  I'm not sure how it happened, but this little rifle board sprouted the best ham forum on the internet. Good luck on your studies, don't be shy about asking questions here.

That's why I didn't recognize you. Got you in the log. It seems like I can always work you, I figure it's because there's nothing but wide open space and reflective salty ground plane between us.

Good to work you yesterday. So glad to see you are enjoying your ANAN SDR. In a few months to a year there are going to be some major software upgrades and it'll be a whole new radio all over again

But you must raise that third monitor up to be even with the other two, it's killing me!
