Last night I ate 10yo Mountain House stored in hot/cold garage…

No problems, tasted great, no stomach or GI issues.

It was chilie mac….surprisingly good.

Amazing that stuff just keeps. A little hot sauce and it's usually good to go.

Chicken and Rice from 2002, at it last month on a backpacking trip.  Tasted just fine, no ill effects.  Didn't die.

Expiration dates are a myth.

I've had some Mountain House for a while.  So I was worried about the expiration date and researched it.

Mountain House says that, so far, based on their experimental retained inventory, it's good for 30 years.  And probably more.

30 Year Shelf Life*

Based on our ongoing sensory and nutrition testing of actual Mountain House products, in July 2016, we raised the shelf-life on our Mountain House meals to 30 years. Purchased Mountain House before then? That’s okay! Our Taste Guarantee is retroactive to products dating all the way back to 1986. We confidently claim a 30-year shelf life, because our testing has shown the shelf life exceeds 30 years. We’ve had independent studies performed on actual 30-year-old product stored under real-world conditions, which weren’t always ideal – not on newer product exposed to an accelerated –time environment in a laboratory. We’ve personally tasted products that were 35 years old and still taste great!

I have pouches from 2002 or 2003. Still good although they are expired.

I guess I shouldn’t have dumped some of my older stuff lol

After the Y2K scare, someone gave me cases and cases of MRE entrees dated 1999. I mostly just mix them in with my dog's food at this point once in a while, but I haven't found a spoiled one yet.

Same. I've been eating them and replacing them as I go.  They've all tasted great.

Glad to hear the cans tasted well after being stored in the garage.

I have a sack of pouches that are at least 15 years old. I should bust one out…

I've done the same.  Chicken and rice pouch from a MH bucket I bought over a decade ago stored in my garage.  Not good not bad.

Dehydrated?  I'm 0% surprised.  Should be totally fine.

Chili Mac never bothered me, but the stroganoff is my favorite.

I like the Chili Mac a lot.  Honestly, I like all the stuff I've eaten from Mountain House.  I don't backpack nearly as much as I used to but in any multi day backpacking trip, I would eat a couple Mountain House meals.  I've never used Mountain House exclusively but at least two meals in a 3-5 day trip would be Mountain House.

I still miss the MH OLD Shrimp Creole.  That stuff was delicious and I could use a shrimp or 2 as bait to catch trout.

Once upon a time I had some MH FD tuna fish.  It was like a sawdust hockey puck; zero taste.  Worst FD I'd ever had.

The shrimp creole was my all-time favorite. The Italian pepper steak offering from MH is quite good and I heartily recommend it.
