I’m going to try to make it tonight. What time is 20m and 40m? And we’re still on secondary channels or primary?

I'm pretty sure I (***DID) connected with at least 4 stations. But didn't really know how to work the process.
All the videos I concentrated on was on how to get it to work. I didn't spend enough time on what to do with it from there. I couldn't figure out how to use the @ARFCOM line in the 'heard/worked stations" box. I'll spend some more time now figuring out the next steps. I do think I could have sent a targeted message if needed, so I felt a mission accomplished being it was my first time actually using the program. |

DID and PPO were +22 on 40 for me. I could see them talking to others too that I couldn’t hear.

Quoted: I saw you. You double click the @ARFCOM and it should pop up in your text box. Then you can follow it up with some text, or right click and there's a lot of options. This video will really help you understand JS8. BTW, congrats on getting your Extra ticket so quickly, that's quite an accomplishment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiCkfvcnuOo View Quote Ok, I was just overthinking it. I thought clicking it would put me into a special group text chat. I did click it and send a 73 on the way out last night. So it's basically just a short cut to add that text to your message outgoing box. I'm 30 min into that linked video. I was following it and a couple of others for setup when I was having trouble this weekend. I'll finish it this week! And then start on WinLink. The testing comes a bit easy for me. I have a great short term memory (my wife has a great long term one - ). I missed one on my tech test and then aced the other two, but honestly I didn't learn that much at all. I think passing the tests just gives you the opportunity to begin learning. I'm not much of a talker, you can tell by my post count. I just wanted the skill and ability to be able to obtain info from coast to coast. I was surprised how much I actually liked the hobby. And really surprised just how far I've been able to contact people. With my son having his license now, the ability to make targeted comms is a whole new ball game. Thanks once again, I appreciate the help. |

Winlink is easier setup compared to other digital modes. You can use your phone with the mobilinkd tnc4 or digirig lite (finally figured out how to send packet with that today).
You can download VaraHF, and VaraFM for Windows computer/tablet (paid version is $70, and I think worth it. Its basically a digital modem that can be faster than packet. You can use a mobilinkd TNC4, or digirig lite, your cell phone and your HT to send email. WoAD (Winlink over Android Device) for Android, Radiomail for Apple. Winlink packet, varaFM is used over 2m70cm and you need to find a Winlink packet gateway moderately close. Select packet on the top of map at the link, zoom in for TX and see if there's one within 20 miles or so. You can also pull up a list in Winlink. Otherwise, if you live on the more sparce side of TX, VaraHF would be your best bet. I have a friend that I send weekly emcomm emails too. At the header we list what radio, mode, antenna, power we used to accomplish the connection. We follow that by making up some disaster story, weaving in some truths, patrol details, preps, how we are improving our situation. It's pretty fun. Winlink is great if you don't have your station running and check when u have time. JS8 is great if you can leave the station running. |

I haven't reset my clock, so my time delta is off about 700-800ms, I wish it were more. It should be noticeable. It would give someone a chance to practice timesync.

I modified the schedule post, Sched 1 and Sched 2. We've been doing Sched 2, let's move to Sched One. Basically, two bands at twenty minutes each.

Just got this working tonight. Really like it. Easy. Install to first contact was about 45 min. Could be very useful.

I'm getting banging signals to the SE US on 20m right now if anybody is around this time of night. My new 40m vertical delta loop is way better than the end fed I had up.
