Congrats

thank you very much. yea, they remind me of the small mouth's we have out here on the kern river. they fight like a fish twice their size. the striper out here have been known to get well over 40" and seem to be pretty common because everyone has a story of a friend of a friend or brother running up and down the aqueduct all night to land one of these monsters . i like to catch these on med catfish rig setups. you should fish them forsure if you get a chance. ive been lucky and the bite has been on with these as of lately.

They're no monsters but it's the first time I've gone fishing in over 16 years.

I muskie fish and when we catch them on a spinnerbait they are usually mangled and I got tired of throwing $15 away

Nahhh every muskie that mangled a spinner was worth it but i use bigger crank or jerk baits and they last a good while, except the paint jobs

I caught a pike when i was 11 years old and that is what addicted me to toothy predators

Congrats again

My biggest so far after a bunch of 20 inchers.

It was awesome. My spinner bait was about 6'' inches beneath the water 5 feet from shore when I saw her take it. I was by myself so I had to lay her down on the grass to take a picture.

Good job, I don't fish for anything except muskie and the occasional catfishing excursion, which is a rarity but my first toothy predator was a 24" pike and I was addicted to going after fish with teeth ever since

I fished a creek that is about 30 yards wide in most places and the pike hid up under the bank and we would see them flash and grab the lure when we were ready to pull the lure out of the water like you described

Keep after them !!!

The wife from an outing yesterday afternoon. We caught around 40 and brought home 22 to filet. We turned this old gal back. She weighed exactly 2 lbs.

There are some great pics in this thread! Very nice everyone.

Thanks for the compliments on the fish and the wife! I feel very fortunate that she like this stuff as much as I do. We would have kept the big one, but I already have two over 2lbs. and one over 3 lbs. waiting to go to the taxidermist.

Here are a couple more from that outing.

Her first one of the day.

I had 8/0 hooks on the line at the time.

On the water I was fishing the legal minimum was 34" from the eye to the fork of the tail.

I'm a big fan of 10/0 hooks for spoonbills .. but only for boat snagging .. too hard to throw from the bank for a distance of any good size!

We fished a local Thursday night tournament last night. Didn't do well quality wise, so only one fish went in the live-well. Just over 3lbs.

When I went to take it out of the well, I noticed it had a tag by the dorsal fin. it was covered in lake scum, so I threw it in the bag and went to weigh-in. Under the light, I scraped off the scum and read the tag with a URL and an ID number.

Turns out that it is one of the Cabela's "Fish For Millions" tagged fish. I wasn't signed up for the contest prior to catching the fish so I'm not eligible for the grand prize ($$$), but still eligible for the sponser prizes (Boat, Truck, Gear, gift certificates, etc.).

I guess we'll see what happens..

My wife and I both caught similar sized Chain Pickeral over the course of two days. They were caught in a private pond and the owner wanted them GONE.  They were destroying his bass population apparently.

This is a pic of the one she caught:

Had a buddy put a female muskie in his small pond to eat some of the stunted bluegill, well when he tried to catch the muskie nothing worked because she was always full

He was cutting hay one day and always had his 243 rifle on the tractor, went up by the pond and the muskie was up on top sunning, he shot the muskie before she could do anymore damage
