Molded it flat then heated each bend one at a time. It turned out better than I thought for my first triple rig.

Had a customer want asking if I could make a shoulder holster. This is the first stab at it. I've worn it around for a few days and really liking how it turned out. Next is to make a double mag pouch for the other side.

I'd stick with the injection molded IWB loops from holster loops or IFI. The IM loops are much more durable than anything you can make from kydex.

Silly question... but, Why are 99.9% of the 1911's pictured in this thread cocked? I have looked through all 137 pages and all but the very first image (from metcalf) is cocked in the holster... Is this just coincidence? Even metcalf's second picture has it cocked.

This.

And to expand a bit, if you plan to mold a body-shield into the holster that comes up high enough to cover part of the thumb safety, you would want the safety lever to be flipped up as it would be when you carry it so the holster is molded with the recess for it correctly in the safety-on position.

Some excellent work here, gentlemen. I have just begun my kydex jorney; after making holsters for all my guns and perfecting technique, I'll start doing them for customers.

My very first one for a VP9:

Second one for M&P 9 VTAC

What do y'all experts think? The second one has glass smooth edges and blended well. I need to go back and fix the black one to match better. Belt loops are 0.125" and holsters are 0.080". Lots of YouTube and forum reading is where I learned the technique.

Did anyone notice a price hike on shipping from IFI thermoplastics?  I went to place an order for some kydex and clips and noticed it was $3-4 higher shipping, and this was a smaller order than last time.

Not bad for your firsts. Really visualize the final shape of the holster as you're cutting the kydex.

HUGE DISCLAIMER!  This is not serious gear.  This is my first attempt at kydex and wanted to experiment and test ideas without getting frustrated with usable stuff.

This will not be attached to my LBE (exempt for fun maybe)  and will not be worn to my next carbine class.  Again,  just wanted to start playing with kydex.

So without further a due,  may I present to you the tactical katana!

The entire sword is sheathed in bicycle inner tube,  then kydex on top of that.

I understand how mall ninja it looks so don't hate to bad!

That looks cool Basp. I think that it might look better with the pals contoured the same as the notches/teeth so they don't protrude from behind the sheath. Again that is only an esthetics comment. Looks like it will work as-is.

Need some quick advice. Making a taco style holster for a friend. It's glock with a RMR sight. Have people pressed these before or do you removed the RMR? I don't want to break it. I need to wrap the whole gun as he wants a thumb break so i'll have to block out the rear the slide on both sides to give me space to mount the thumb break strap.
I'm thinking regardless if the rmr is to fragile to press (i'm guessing not-but don't want to chance it) it would still be best to remove it. Press the whole gun in kydex then remove the top scrap kydex from the top of the slide until i get past where the RMR rests.

thoughts?

I would not press the RMR, It would likely break.

Some how I managed to get this right on the first try.  I formed it out of the heavier .093 kydex.  It's open along the entire length of the top with a small channel formed from the scope base over the front sight.  There's 5 eyelets in the front under the barrel to hold the 2 pieces together. Then under the barrel there's 2 tension screws (also adding some strength to the two halves) and another infront of the trigger gaurd. I blocked off all areas that the kydex could sink into so the gun doesn't snap into it like most kydex holsters.  Its only held in by a bit of friction adjusted by the tension screws. I added an eyelet under the tension screws so we could add an elastic hammer strap if the tension screws didnt work as planned.  There's 8 1/4" fuel line spacers on 8-32 screws that secure it to another kydex plate that has the malice straps attached to it.

I'm shocked at how well it works.  It rides fairly close to the chest, the tension is perfect, and it's fairly quiet on the draw.  Dad plans on wearing it over his bibs but under his coat to keep any precip and dirt off of it.  An added bonus to the heavier kydex was that it settled into the flutes of the cylinder preventing the hammer from being cocked with its in the holster.

really looks like you could yank it up and back and have it come unholstered, dut the clearance of the hood and only two retention screws being close together.

I couldn't do it. probably because the light is sticking so far forward, no way to rotate before it hits the hood.

I've been busy in my shoppe....Some of these are for customers, some are for me as practice. Lowered my time from the first at 10 hours to a IWB Foldover in 2.5hr and standard two piece in 4-5 hours from first cut to put it on my belt. Pics!!

XD(M) Compact with blade tech QD system for my Fiance.

XD(M) Full size with same QD for me. I did this one before the pink one, the sides don't need the raven spaced rivets. Future QDs will have less material on the edges and a slant cut like the pink one.

IWB Foldover appendix rig for XDS using injection molded strut.

XD(M) OWB. area under the grip is a little knuckle rubber, fixed it in later models with lower top edge leading into trigger guard.

P22 5" with suppressor. Pew!

USP Compact 40 OWB Concealed rig. The wing on the rear belt loop pulls the handle into your body much better than a standard loop. very nice for winter carry wearing a jacket.

1911 O/IWB swappable. Using a .125" kydex tuckable strut with PTD loops. Swaps out for standard belt loops for OWB.

Shield IWB Appendix rig using home made strut.

Just a small criticism based on my taste; If you leave more material on the back side of the holster where it would be forming around the sight channel,  the sweat guard wont be "floppy".

There is, but it is very shallow. I blocked it off with a piece of thick leather cut to size.

It looks deeper than it really is.

There is also a fair amount of spring action by the kydex because the rivets are so far apart from left to right, so the whole holster acts like a spring to open when the gun goes in or out.
