Any idea what mode was up from us on 2000?

Not sure, it looked narrower to me. Maybe MFK8 or one of the narrower Olivia/Contestia modes?

I tried to search for the net he mentioned but didn't find anything definitive.

I tried different modes in the 250 range but wasn't able to decode anything. I'm deficient in recognizing modes on a waterfall.

Updated the date for the net. As a reminder I won't be around to NC this week or next,
so we'll need volunteers.

I might have family obligations tonight, not sure I'll be back in time for the net. If I'm home in time I can call it. Otherwise someone else can get an opportunity to call the net.

30 minute warni g out on 14067.5. Saw one test station. Not sure if I'll get a 15 minute warning out, but will be there 5 min and NC

Three arf members checked in, one new guy that stumbled across the net. One arf member could hear bits and pieces but wasn't able to connect tonight.

Band died for me about half way through, 7 check-in's still. Probably time to go back to 40m.

You started fading halfway in, but you were still 100%, up intil trying to get that last station. You then dropped down to about 50%.

I know you didn't get much of my report(25%). I cut most of it out due to worsening conditions.

I should apologize, I pretty much lost everybody and sent a QRZ string, then I heard NCS come back on.

You asked for a report with your new set up. You were S6 and -9dB at 100% into central illinois. I don't consider that bad for 20m between our stations.

Thanks for the report, I still have the IC7300, the Kenwood has been tougher to get used to. The memory system isn't the same at all. It seems to be working, wish I had the bench space to do a "side by side".

I'll be present to NC this week. Per the last net, I'll open on 40M... I'm still way west and will
have sunlight so we'll see how it goes, it might be necessary to go to 20. After 2330Z I'll
request reports on 20M and go from there.

Maybe my math in my head is a little off, but wouldn't 0000Z be 1900 EST (and 1800 CST, my time)?

Let me fix that. Remember I'm from one of the sane states that doesn't do this nonsense.

ETA: This probably means everyone is going to miss the net as well.

Saw a couple tests before 2330Z

2330Z reminder out.

ETA: decent copy on two stations both pretty far east of me, so let's stick with 40M, will skip the 20M test.

ETA #2: forgot to mention one of the tests prior to 2330Z was another AZ station.

Same thing happened here, you were about +5 db when testing at 2315Z, then you sunk into the noise
at check in, and then you were solid when it was your turn and I stepped on the relay.

While not the pipeline we've been used to on 20M for the past 6 months, 40M worked
fine this week, only had a hard time with the station not 100 miles from me.

Five check-ins + NC tonight. Usually attendance picks up in the winter and after
the time change gets recognized.

Thanks for dropping by tonight!

What were you using before?

That might be a hint that your ground system needed some help.

40M EFHW....just the wire, nothing else.

I've got an FT-891 with the FC50 tuner, and the tuner was working...sorta.  Had been looking into the transformers for a while, but the info on them is kind of bewildering--1:1, 9:1, 49:1.... Everything on them was pretty much written by engineers, for engineers. Finally found some good instructions with inexpensive parts, put it together last weekend. Was able to be heard on the SSB net last Tuesday for the first time, too.

So I think that was most of my problem.  I've still got the issues with my antenna running within yards of overhead powerlines, though.

Yeah, and EFHW has a feedpoint impedance of like 2,500-5,000 ohms. Without a transformer not a whole lot of power
is getting pushed into that from a 50ish ohm source.

Not surprised the transformer made a difference, EFHW really won't work without one of a good tuner right at the feedpoint
as your experience demostrates. I'm sure it's nice to finally get out!

It's not like 20M was in the summer, and conditions on 40M were a little rough but I heard everyone (eventually) with 100% copy.

We had six stations + NC tonight, one check in via relay that I copied direct when it was their turn.

I went up another 5 watts (to 50), that seemed to do the trick. Probably more power than I should be pushing digital.  And thanks for the relay!

Reception for me was all over the place.  Net Control and a couple of other stations were clear at check in but garbled during their turn.

The band seemed both weak and highly variable to me. I don't think the extra 5 W contributed much, it was
probably just propagation being wonky.

It worked out fine,  I hope everything is going well post op.

Awhile ago, I lost track of time talking to my son on the phone and I missed being NCS on Tues night SSB. A couple of weeks later, I missed again, lost track of time when he was home for a visit. I made the net just in time to be a late checkin, instead of running it.

Conditions were a little weak here with a lot of variability but olivia did her thing as usual.

Smaller net tonight, 3 stations + NC. All stations copied 100%.
