Because you can?
Unless you have issues with recoil, why wouldn't you want the faster round out of the shorter barrel (or at least use a round designed for the shorter length). I shot +P in mine and while I didn't have a timer with me, I couldn't really tell any practical difference in times. I could tell they were hotter, especially when I mixed rounds in the mag, but recoil isn't bad at all with the Micros.
As an aside, you need to look at the manufacture's website, or at least the box, to try to get an idea if their +P claims have any validity- the example I usually use is Federal listing their HST .38 as +P and it's only clocking around 824fps in a snub and 850fps in a 4" and you can tell it's average .38 velocities when shooting it with a variety of different rounds in the cylinder including actual +p rounds. Most manufacturer's .38 +P is over 900fps while the boutique rounds are 1000fps or a bit over in +P. As for 9mm, as an example, Speer list their 124gr 9mm at 1150 and their +P version at 1220- a whole 70fps difference so you might as well get what you can out of the 3.4" barrel.
