Spotted one of these in the wild yesterday for 2200 and I thought what I could sale or trade towards the 901 but with a little one coming in Jan those ideas went out the window. The only way I would could do it is if it came in the kit and then I could6 sale my Colt 6721R. The other stuff I have is sentimental, or is shot on a regular basis except a Enfield No.4 Mk. II that is unfired and it will stay unfired along with 200 rds of Greek ammo for my son when he turns 18. I am sure a few of you guys know the pain, not being born rich, first kid, and the economy bites. Why did Colt not come out with this a year ago

Why did Colt not come out with this a year ago they did show it last year Jan 2011 then came out in July this year. you had well over a year to save up for it. you knew you had had to pinch pennies. bad thing now is, anyone who ha snot gotten one, may have to fight off panic buy prices |

So, it seems to be widely suspected that the 901 will be available in a commercial hunting camo next. Any word on the FDE or desert digital MARPAT? I won't be re-deploying back to CONUS until May/June timeframe, and I'm crossing my fingers that the 901 will be available in one of these flavors by that time.

Just fit a Magpul MOE triggerguard to the gun.
As with the BCM Gunfighter grip with the duckbill, i had to do some modification to get it to fit well. Kind of a pain in the butt but not that big of a deal and now my cold weather gloves fit into the triggerguard just fine. No issues inserting the Colt Spec LR20's either which i was initially a tad worried about. |
|
|
Well I am buying one as soon as may FFL locates one forme. It will be waiting for me when I return CONUS.

Or eat spam for a few weeks. Things are not going to be pretty after today. Im not one to panic, but we are about to be in for the political full on assault of our rights for while |

You can only release the bolt catch from the right side button. One of the minor annoyances of the design. If the gun becomes popular enough someone will figure out how to re-engineer this. "Ambidextrous" and "modular" are terms very loosely applied to this platform by colt...annoying but they don't detract much from the fact that the got a lot of things right...over all I'm pretty happy with mine. Edit: because I can't spell. |

Is there any .308 or 7.62 markings? Probably not since you can throw on a 5.56 upper. |

Today at the gun show in Oaks PA I found 3 new Colt 901s for sale. Serial numbers 02,224 and others were about the same range. So colt is putting them out there and they are on the shelves. I cannot believe some of you guys are not finding them available. Keep looking gents, they are out there!

All the picatinny slots are scalloped, but the ones on the ends are cut straight. Those cuts are what allow the locking spring on the KAC rail covers to lock into place. You could use a file to create those cutouts... I did on a 2 piece rail but I'm not sure I'd touch a nice monolithic receiver like that. http://s7.postimage.org/vllxst60b/rail_Cut_02_Large.png Thanks for the pics and explanation. You're right, I'm not going to be filing on anything. |

I recommend the Larue index clips for rail covering duty for the 901/6940

Whats the deal with all the pmags selling out instantaneously??? Is production on the .308 just minuscule compared to the 5.56 mags? Anyone know who still has any in stock? Cheaper than dirt boned me by taking my money and Friday afternoon and then canceling my order saturday. I ordered from Firequest immediately, and was informed this moring that I should be ok to get some of what they had, then called back at 1:30 and was informed that the had in fact sold out on friday. All major online retailers seems to be sold out, but most still have 5.56 mags....
Any ideas? I want 20 lr20's |

guys please, dont turn this into nothing but "where can I get a good deal on a 901"? or "willt he 901 be banned" or any AWB related crap. Panic buying is already at ludicrous speed. So lets keep it free of that shit and calm. Lets talk about 901s.Enough of that shit has already spammed GD.
IF this gets a lot of panic buy questions I will ask VA_Gunnut to lock this thread to avoid it before it degenerated into more of that. GO some where else to ask all the stuff you can find out yourself using google please. Im sure in the coming days everyone will be glad to have a place to go and read specifics thats not over run with panic, rumors and 1 million question from people that couldnt see the obvious coming. I personally need at least one place to act as a break from all the sky is falling goin on |

Picked up mine yesterday. Unwrapped, cleaned up, and lubed up last night. Incredibly tight bolt fit due to the gas rings, I imagine its a good thing meaning it just needs to be broken in.
Very interesting design features. Trigger is pretty rough, so an SDE is on the way to wrap that end up. I cannot for the life of me settle on a proper optic. I'd like to be able to fully utilize its accuracy and I'm leaning toward a 2.5-10x32. |

I apologize. I worded that post poorly. Obviously they sold out due to panic buying. I didn't mean to bring the panic mania in here. So, sorry for not being more clear that I was commenting on the apparently lower production and "in stock volume" of these .308 mags compared to the 5.56 mags........ and asking for help finding a few. Please do excuse me. And please don't assume I thought the wolf was sleeping......people have limited budgets. I've put most of my spare pennies towards guns and ammo for the last 7 years since I moved out of California to get a BSME...... I just got my 901 about 6 weeks ago and took a loan out to do it because I saw the writing on the wall. I asked my friend Jim who is an 07 FFL SOT to find me one in June. In August, Jim's distributor said he had one on the way to arrive in October and it had Jim's name on it. Well.....as November I became afraid it wouldn't show up before the election. So, when Clydes Armory had some in stock I did take decisive action and asked Jim if it would bother him if I bought one from Clydes instead, just to ensure I got it before the shit hit the fan. Thank God I did because weeks later his distributor called him and said it was in and ready for pick up. When Jim arrived to pick it up the next day, the distributor had sold it out from under him. Jim was PISSED. Anyhow, moving on to more interesting and "on topic" commentary......my first and only 3 shot 300 yd. group with cheapo Federal Powershock 150 gr's measured 3.5 inches, shot with a TA11-E prone out of the back of my Suburban. I've shot several .800"ish groups at 100yds. I've carried it through the woods for a total of over 10 hours now hunting deer with a single point and it's a great intermediate between long bolt gun and a standard AR. It really fills a nice niche. Needless to say I'm pretty pleased with the rifle so far. I'll be adding a Geiselle sometime soon and staring to play with handloading for it. Again, I apologize. |

Those of us new to .308 are hurting but hey, it is what it is and i figure eventually we will see more magazines on the market or we wont...its that simple. I bought my .308 to be a pseudo battle rifle but in reality it is going to end up as my primary hunting rifle. Hopefully the three LR20's that i have will last me a lifetime if that is the worst case scenario lol. :) |

I'm still a younger newer shooter who has yet to get his own .30cal bullet dispenser. Fingers crossed I can get my hands on an LE901 . Overall it looks like a great embodiment of a DMR style rifle. I already have a Recce style rifle, so in my mind the 0-500/600 is covered. In looking for the "further than that" category I'm finding myself in the .308/7.62 camp. With an SWFA SS3-9x sitting in a larue mount, and a Geissele SSA-E looking for a home? The Colt might be it! Thanks for all the info Shawn |

Remember me telling you about the 901 that my dealer had. Well I set it in his managers back office and I took up everal of the firearms I don't shoot anymore. I have been on Christmas break the last few days and helping out at the store with call ins. pulling and showing firearms since it is like a mad house. By Thursday morning he had 5 AR's left and those were gone the first 10 minutes of opening. Now there is like two AK rifles and one M1A left--this was out of a several hundred inventory of ARs and AK's. Anyway, the manager did not get my text that morning of Wed telling him to grab me the three Pmags on the shelf. I cannot find any anywhere.
This sucks. We will be making medicine today on my 901 but I need a couple mags. Not sure but if you any of you have extra's that you don't plan on using and parting with in the near future please hit me up. Do it for the kid, my unborn son wants more than two mags for his future .308! I can even prove that I have the unborn son on the way--if you need pics of the wife holding the 901, or the ultasounds I can prove it! Thanks |

No one NEEDS the mags. The gun comes with two... We all WANT more. I only have three and as it stands right now i may end up only ever having three. It is what it is and that is just the way its going to have to be. Instead of spending 50-100 dollars on mags right now IF i can even find them at those insane prices i am simply going to spend that money on renewing my membership to the NRA. Hell, i bought my dad a membership too after asking him if it was OK. He doesnt even own any guns, has only fired one of mine once but fully supports WHY i own them. EDIT: Not to spread the flames any further but ive been reading that Colt just unleashed hell, ie a HUGE shipment of all kinds of rifles. If this is true we should see a fairly massive amount of Colt rifles on shelves after the first of the year. Neat. Here is hoping there are a few 901s available for those of you waiting on them. Good luck guys. |

If you're just giving mags away, then give them to me...

The same! I see you remembered The church of colt6920 was and is not mine. I was not exactly floored by colts offerings (in terms of features and diversity) at the time. I still believe there are other good AR makers out there. That said I really like the things I'm seeing from Colt lately. (For example the competition models) It's certainly made me look twice and gotten me to consider warming up to the brand. The LE901 is a gun I find really interesting, for a bunch of reasons. Enough for shelve the old opinion I had, and tell the company "I like what I see" with my dollars. Life's funny like that sometimes... back in middle school, the kid I couldnt stand? My best friend, and may very well be best man one day. and stories like that are not unique to me. In closing: You'll never see an all colt gunsafe in my home, but if things go how I think they may, the .30cal colt has here may become my favorite. |

yeah. I never forget being insulted. Or having my friends insulted. especially when its done in ignorance. and you sure liked to say it loud and often.
Not liking what other like is fine, but insulting them as brainless followers of a cult is another matter all together. Maybe some one willing to forget being insulted will help you out. |

Hey, it's your stuff and you're free to do with it as you please, and by whatever rationale you want to use. If I felt entitled to it, I'd have asked for Obummer to provide it to me for free amirite IMHO, ignorance is what is shown by some posters who have a "colt only" mindset, (note: not targeting you as I say that), and apologizing for my criticism of that mindset would be a faux-apology at best. I don't do those. I can't say I'd feel as sensitive about that were I in your shoes; then again personally it takes quite a bit for me to actually hold a grudge. That said, I'm stopping there to avoid the risk of derailing this thread- thanks again for the information here. I'm between one of these guns, and another one of the newer 16in .308 ARs. The Colt is in the running thanks in no small part to the information provided in this thread. If I get a 901, I'll be back with pictures. |

Thanks lol Im going to copy and past this under the urban dictionary entry for DESPERATE if I am going to be giving away Pmag for the 901. there has to be some ground rules here. I need to figure it out on how to be fair. One condition is you have to be a "friend" of the looserounds.com facebook page. I know that ,much, hhmm.. maybe some one needs to start a thread and guys who really need the mags bad can post in it. that way we could see and keep track of it some how. I dont know Hey I am famous! I will be in the dictionary--had to look up a few different things through the years that I have been called but you know now you can add this pic to the dictionary. I am interested, I will have to get my pass word for facebook again, it has been a while because I had students wanting to be friends on FB--no thanks LOL, I like my job and freedom. As to yesterday right after I posted I left for work at the gun store, he is letting me work there over Christmas break since he is so overwhelmed and I kinda have a knack for knowing just enough to be dangerous |
