I posted this in the Ops inc thread in the suppressor section but it got buried at the bottom of a page.
I just got an AEM5-30k. Now I need to figure out how best to make it work on my SCAR 20 308 barrel. Ideally I would get the can as flush as possible to the receiver.
I have a Mod-H that started life as a 17” Lilja 6.5 Grendel barrel and you guys cut it down and profiled it for the Ops 12th so I’m using that as a reference.
The distance from the receiver to the muzzle of the 20” barrel is ~6.7725” I used a tape measure to get the distance from the upper to the step for the threaded portion(6 1/16”) with the 6.5 Creedmoor barrel installed.
I then used calipers to measure the threaded section of the 308 barrel at .710”
Looking at the Mod-H the step is 2.5” behind the muzzle and the custom collar extends .314” behind the step, the 20* taper portion looks to be a little over 1/2 that length.
So if I’m mathing right 20in barrel cut to 16in gives me ~2.7725” to work with. I’ve seen drawings that show both 2.5” and 2.4” to the start of the 20* taper. Do I have enough room for a custom collar? I assume one like I have on the Mod-H could be shortened. If I can go 2.4” from muzzle to step it shouldn’t be a problem.
Do I need a collar? I see the drawing for the AE30 showing .92” for the min barrel OD behind the taper to get the suppressor to mount, the scar barrel is .84” does that change for the 30cal aem5?
I see the drawing for the spr collar showing .755” behind the collar and .725” in front. Does that mean I only need .02” difference for the collar to mount or does the barrel in front of the collar need to be smaller to accommodate the suppressor?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
