Suhas Subramanyam, replaced John Bell as my State Senator.

Slightly more anti-2A.

ETA - Youngkin will have to veto this shit.

I received this email today. The important part is in bold.

Dear Rookie421,

Thank you for your recent e-mail in support of HB 390 and HB 395 both dealing with concealed handgun permits.

I appreciate your input and letting me know of your support for these bills.  Both bills have been passed-by-indefinitely by the Committee on Public Safety.  The bills will no longer be considered this session of the General Assembly.  As a 2nd amendment supporter and former hunter safety instructor, I’ve always tried to maintain the rights of our law abiding citizens.

Again, thank you for contacting me regarding these bills.  You may follow all legislation at https://virginiageneralassembly.gov. Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or any other bills of interest to you.

Sincerely,

Robert D. “Bobby” Orrock, Sr.

RDO/rh

Have we heard anything from the governor’s office on any of this stuff?  I don’t want to assume anything.

And you shouldn't assume anything.

If the bills pass and are signed, the Dems win.

If the bills pass and are vetoed, they have a sword to hang over his head should he run again for anything, so they win.

Youngkin will have to be calculating in what he signs and doesn't.

Hopefully Youngkin vetoes all this shit.

But if he waffles, I'd guess it will be on the fringes,
like living in the same house with a prohibited,
requiring/not altering serial numbers, waiting periods,
and mandatory training renewals (which pisses me off
the most).

sh** like this makes me want to retire somewhere AWAY from Virginia....

I always thought Virginia was a great state.  I am a born, bred, YANKEE, from Upstate New York, served a career in the US Coast Guard, retired and settled in VA.  What has happened in the last 25 years or so?  Before you jump to conclusions....  No, no, no, no, I am *NOT* one of those crazy nut-jobs from NY!  The wonderful New York that I knew in the 60's & 70's no longer exists.

In closing:  For all native Virginians: As a "come-here", please accept my apology regarding all the massive influx of anti-gun liberals moving to VA.  They destroyed their own state, and they are now here.  Had I known, I wouldn't have said a word, "Oh, Virginia is a wonderful state!  It's beautiful here!  The rolling hills of the Piedmont, the Blue Ridge Mtns, the entire Virginia Beach area, etc... you have everything within a 2-3 hour drive!".

My family moved to Vienna (Fairfax County) in 1963 when I was in 4th grade.  I lived in the same neighborhood until 2010 and then moved to near Charlottesville (which has degraded in the past 10 years.)  You didn't make this mess.  It was Federal Government jobs--not you--that brought the perversion of big money and outsiders to the state.  That and a dishonest media are our enemies.

I agree it’s W’s fault.   I was technically born here because I was born on Quantico when there was still a hospital on hospital point.  But we were gone before I was 6 months old.  Moved back in the 80s when my dad was stationed at the pentagon in time for me to go to high school here, then I went into the military, lived here for a while, and ended up back in NoVA in 2006…..the explosion in northern Virginia even from then until now is unreal.

My wife and I have been talking about retiring to Hawaii in the fall of 2026.  My friends give me shit about retiring to an anti-gun state.   I tell them that at the rate Virginia is going, after we likely get a governor Spanberger in fall of 2025, the gun laws in Hawaii will be better than in Virginia . I was at lobby day in 2020.   There was a lot of pride and hope.  But all we did was delay the inevitable it would seem.   Sorry to be so negative.   I’ve had a rough week.  And I’m not seeing much hope left for gun owners in this state

Keep in mind only 39% of register voters actually voted in 2023 November's election.

Also keep in mind that a large majority of gun owners don't even know of the bills proposed. I watched Wavy and they were explaining about some of the bills coming and not once mentioned the gun bills.

I did managed to have a talk to one person at the gun range regarding the upcoming bills. He didn't know about it but also he said he's not too worried about it because there's nothing he can do about it.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooo....... like what happened in most states that pass AWBs and other gun control bills...... is that 1) most people don't know.... and 2) most people didn't vote anyways. As a matter of fact it's often so surprising that not even the police department really knows or even how to respond to something.

As I've been telling people who are surprised by it or even surprised by the increases in crimes in some places that normally don't have any... congratulations... you got exactly what you voted for. By not voting, you're essentially agreeing with whatever happens by default.

We can totally beat this too if 1) we all voted, and 2) we got people to vote. Until we have a near 98+% of people voting, really we're getting exactly what we voted for.

Also, have a great trip to Hawaii. We don't really need people like you around to help us and we certainly don't need you to enjoy any of our hard earned battles. For me, I grew up in Virginia and I'll be damned if I see it go down the shitter.

I don't get this mentality. With 39% of people voting, we absolutely could have beaten this. This doesn't have anything to do with big money. Alec Baldwin didn't go door to door this time asking if his revolver was loaded. This is entirely on us.

We can beat this if we all go vote and tell our friends to vote and our family to go vote. With such a mentality like this it makes me want to start asking if you can prove you actually voted in 2023's election. If not, hope you have a great retirement elsewhere. Hope you have a safe trip getting that uhaul too. You don't need to wave on your way out too.

I’ve been here for 18 years.   I’ve voted in every primary. And every election.  I’ve canvassed.  I’ve been a member of the VCDL the entire time.   I’ve been to lobby day multiple times.  I’ve been to county board meetings. I’ve donated my time and money, helped with candidates at the state and local level.

People like me?   What you’ve needed is more people like me.I’ve tried to be part of the solution the entire time I’ve lived here.  And when I move I’ll try and improve the situation there too.  Your anger is understandable but misdirected.   I’ll give you a pass because I’m as frustrated as you are, but maybe take a look at the room as it were and consider who you’re talking to.

And if that doesn’t wake you up, then kiss my ass.

It's probably more telling who is not in the room here.

Or what's not being put up in gun stores and ranges.

I'd rather not have us fight amongst ourselves.

I understand the frustration of people who want to leave
an increasingly anti-2A Commonwealth, and those who
will never leave under any circumstances.

It doesn't matter where you're from originally, just do what
you can for Virginia's right to keep and bear arms.

I'm probably the biggest hypocrite. Born in PA, Army brat -
lived in FL and NJ, W. Germany, then back to PA.

I've lived in VA for nearly 46 years now after my mother remarried.

I was so late to pro-2A, it's embarrassing. It took just one person
to set me on a gun rights path... just one.

I was young and newly married, I didn't think beyond that, but a very
persistent pro-2A mentor opened my mind. At the very least, be someone
who teaches someone to "get it."

Virginia is my home. If I'm going to leave it, it'll be because I want
to move to a place that fits my life, and not because I'm fleeing tyranny.

Save our proverbial gunpowder for those who would disarm us.

I don't think you can dismiss the impact of ourside money.

Outside money has definitely plays a role in shaping the current state of the Commonwealth.  You need look no further than the Soros-backed DAs.  While I can't claim to speak on all of them, in Fairfax Co. Ray Morrogh was primaried by Descano thanks in no small part to Soros money telling people to vote for Descano and reform things like cash bail, felonies for thefts under $1,000, etc.  By the time the people who could have stopped this by voting in the Dem primary realized what had happened it was too late.  The majority of Fairfax Co. will vote D just because they'll never vote R, and so unless Descano gets primaried, we'll be stuck with him thanks to Soros who got what he wanted.

"FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (7News) — New data from the Fairfax County Circuit Court shows that under Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano, fewer felony cases were sent to trial, more felony charges have been dismissed and dropped, and there have been fewer guilty verdicts on felony charges compared to his predecessor’s final three years in office even though several categories of major crimes are up in Fairfax County."

Good news the recent vcdl email seems to suggest Youngkin won’t sign gun control bills and want to focus on criminals. My guess is the democrats will pass it knowing it’ll veto but use it as a talking point next election.

Yes that’s one of the big points for people who say they want to move. Guess what? It’s going to follow you. Nova consists of people tired of dc and ny and guess what? They’ll tire of Virginia soon due to crimes and taxes. They’ll be going south and into nc and west Virginia. Blooomberg and Soros are both making it clear they plan to buy out one state at a time and a lot of people don’t know or don’t care. Someday a rich person will buy this country. We need to make a stand at some point. Maybe you guys will pass on but I’ll be old enough to see it if you guys let it.

Having Youngkin veto the bills they pass will be used to disqualify him from other higher office. That's the goal. If he signs it, they win. If he vetoes, they win.

No, what they're really doing is seeing how far they can get away. They know Virginia is dangerously going to blue and they're seeing how much they can make the right side move to see what they can pass next election. Remember Soros and Bloomberg paid these guys big bucks to pass bills no matter what and to get into office no matter what. That's why many of them are aggressively going after these hot topics.

It's like the little kid with a cookie jar. You tell him not to put his hands in the cookie jar, and he slowly puts it in there to reach for a cookie while watching for your reaction. If you do nothing, he knows he'll get away with anything else but if you do something, he'll just resent you but he'll listen to you in the future.

Now it's up to us next election. Are you going to let them get away with such behavior? Or are you going to leave Virginia with your tail between your legs like a little girl? One guy is going to Hawaii already so it seems like we are.

Abortion will win Va for the Dems in '25.

Yeah, that's what I've been saying about the national election that a lot of people are talking about Trump winning but the entire abortion topic is going to drive voters out to the booth. We're going to get smashed this November nationally too.

The funny part is that while Virginia dems ran on that platform, I don't see that many bills coming through that addresses this. So voters should be upset that they're going after agenda topics. Personally I think the entire dems base is going to run with that idea that they can get into office in the next 5-10 years so long as they keep the abortion topic and do nothing about it.

Keep in mind though only 39% of voters came out this election cycle. We need more voters out. The 39% is a increase too because of the abortion topic. The rest of us are either busy moving to Hawaii or sitting down at home during election day. We really need to come together next time.

With such a low turn out, all it takes is a drive for one issue to really set the difference.

It is quite honestly all they have and it works.

They don't have to pass pro-abortion bills. Just like on the national level the Dems never put forth legislation that makes abortion legal in all 50 states, the VA Dems don't HAVE to put forward legislation. All they have to run on is the idea that if Rs get in they WILL put anti-abortion legislation forward. Them holding the reigns just means nothing will change.

Politicians are fucks. Full stop. They do what gives them the best chance to get elected and re-elected. That is all. Ds ran on "Rs are gonna make abortion illegal. Elect us and they can't!" and they won. They didn't run on "we'll put a law in place that says nobody can ever take your baby murder away!" They're doing what they said they'd do, which is make sure Rs don't pass anti-abortion legislation.

It's not all that dissimilar to places like Texas and Florida, with R super majorities, that still have to claw pro-2A bills through their state houses. They should be slam dunks for 2A laws getting passed...but see above ref politicians being fucks.

Votes are being cast along party lines.

Please post any and all shitbag Republican

This.

I was a kid/teen in the late 90s and early 00’s.  I watched farm fields, yes corn fields (if you can believe it) get bulldozed under in southern Fairfax county and turned into tract housing.

I lived right off of 123 and remember when it was a 2 lane road.

Sweet!

There's no way in hell my shitbird reps in Alexandria will vote no to anti-2A legislation, but I still send all the emails from VCDL, GOA, and FPC to let them know they have people in their areas who still like freedom.

He's an old white guy but he at least walked my neighborhood when he was running last time.
That said, i think he won something like 55-60% so we are a pretty safe red area, however, the Karens have exploded over the last 20 years.

AWB passed. Sure the Senate’s version will pass as well. Time to start blowing Youngkin’s email and phones up.

The latest VCDL email sure has a lot of Dem efforts to disarm decent people; they never give up or rest.

The stories of the Repub delegates who cast anti-2A votes by mistake is hard to imagine.  You'd hope that they would do their jobs and know what they are voting on and get it right.

The Va GOP, at best, is incompetent for the most part. I also don't really believe their votes were mistakes.

I have to laugh at the latest VCDL email stating something along the lines of they couldn't believe how many bills the Dems have brought forth. Well yea, the Dems have gone all in on anti gun and purged out a few that were less than 100% anti gun, who in the fuck couldn't see that they want Va to be worse than NY, Cali, IL, or MD in regards to guns.
Basically we need SCOTUS to finally take an AWB while Thomas and Alito are on the court, as the 4th will rule for AWB, whenever they get around to ruling on the MD case.

Not unexpected, but I'm really disgusted with my
"Commonwealth," its politicians, and and their idiotic,
moronic supportive voters right now.

The Governor's site doesn't give any very appropriate categories for this, but you have to try.

So sorry you guys are going thru this.  I spent a couple of years on VA in the 2000s, and thought it was a pretty nice state.  But, even back then I could see the drift to the Left.

Unfortunately, the cancer that is NoVa, is filled with government employees and contractors.  While not all are Leftists, the majority think a larger and more powerful government is a good thing.  And the peasants must be disarmed.

I was raised in CT.  I watched it go from a great, middle ground politically state, to California with shitty weather and polluted beaches.  Hell, many of the gun companies in the country were located here (before the Dems drove them out).  Our taxes and gun laws were great, but then the Dems took over.

Bottom line, I hope your Gov vetos this POS, but it is only a matter of time, given the NoVa cancer. NEVER vote for ANY Democrat for ANY office.  That’s how it starts.

Welcome to what we affectionately call “Behind enemy lines”.

Watched a video from Washington gun law on youtube. Says the Va AWB is verbatim what Washington passed. Guess Bloomberg's group is just going around writing laws for the dems.
Also I believe it will ban threaded barrels for pistols.
Man what a crock of shit.
