Planning on taking the kids to the Grandparents house on the 7th and staying until after the eclipse passes then going home the 8th. They are about 25-30mi off the centerline of totality path. Its going to be a clusterfuck of epic proportions.
If the weather looks bad or the highways and roads are fucked the day before, not going to risk it. |

Hoping to be able to get out of work a little early. I live within the path of totality, but work just outside of it. I work an atypical schedule, with my normal end time being 3:30 PM - so the hope is that I can get away a little earlier, since totality is supposed to be around 3:15. Not going to be able to get away with actually being out, even for a half day, as almost the entire rest of the department is scheduled out, but given my schedule I might be able to swing leaving early to make it home just in time.

My brother in law the firefighter is not allowed to take time off. They've declared a state of emergency in ohio that day. He advises me that traffic will be of Fucked of epic proportions. That I should not plan on traveling. I've got a lot at Indian Lake & a drive in movie theater but we're gonna go to my father in-laws and spend time with him. Should be able to bring the whole family. I've probably overdone it buying nice solar eclipse glasses filters for cameras & having wood dropped off for fires and purchasing new tents.

I couldn't care any less about this. I'm going to work, going home, and hanging out with my baby girl.
Work is considering a half day, so that's the only thing I care about this whole thing. |

It really isn't. It'll be just like any other eclipse you can see. Take your 6 year old a few miles to see that last little bit. It really WILL be something to remember. Yes traffic will suck, use back roads, take a picnic and beer, fill your gas tank day before. But GO! |

Initial weather reports for where we're planning to go says 50 and rain. Hopefully as we get closer to the day, the report will change for the better.

We are heading back to Carbondale IL. We went there 7 years ago for the last one because the exact same spot is in totality again.
I figured it really is a once in a lifetime event to see 2 eclipses from the exact same spot. Plus the grandkids are old enough this time to be excited about it PS for the younger crowd there actually are 2 more 'crossing' total eclipses hitting the US in 2045, 2052/2078. I'm getting 3.5 minutes of totality at my house but will have the jeep ready to move depending on clouds

Yup saw it too.
We were going to go out towards Marysville, but made a game day decision just to goto Bridge Park in Dublin. The kids went to the school and played basketball. Wife and I went into North High Brewing for drinks and grub. Meet a cool couple there and shot the breeze for awhile. Met back up with the kids around 2 over in the park area of the bridge. Incredible experience. Saw the solar flares, just awe inspiring. @laxman09 I hope you went a bit to see totality. |

What’s really crazy is how big is that little protrusion of sun that we can see it with our naked eyes from this far away. We have no idea where the end of space is. Sooo vast. Crazy!

the event turned out to be more than i expected. the solar flare was cool to see. stars and a planet or 2 were visible. could see the shadow approaching across the ground. bees were buzzing around 2 full bloom ornamental trees in the backyard, the bees quit and went home, then returned shortly after the sun did.
