Some friends of mine from Tennessee  are going to be in Saint Louis in April.   I'm in the KC area so not familiar with the area.
They will be staying at an air b&b in the Lindenwood Park area.  Fyler Ave, Watson road.   Anything to be concerned about?   They plan on doing the Zoo and Arch.  They CCW and I told them about Arch being Fed property.   Last I saw posted is that the Zoo is no firearms but no metal detectors.  Don't park on the streets and just keep situational awareness.   They don't plan on being out at night.
Anything else to tell them?
Thanks
Vince

Not a great area, but it ain't north stl. Basics of watching yourself apply.

In April I would also highly suggest going to see the botanical gardens. One of the best in the country.

Lol. It is a federal park. You can carry anywhere outside on the grounds, but you can't step foot inside armed.
Don't even try.... Federal park = federal park rangers and they are pretty serious. You would be in cuffs once discovered.

FWIW, a recent study found the Gateway Arch to be the safest national park in America. I'm sure there are lots of explanations for that.

Rats want to scurry out of sight, and the arch is in a wide open area.

Plus, no pesky death by dehydration like the Grand Canyon.

Been over a decade since I lived up there but a good rule is get out of the city before it gets dark. Stay the hell out of the northside and do not cross over into Illinois.
Gateway NP is very small and wide open outside. Inside is nice enough. Parking can be a bitch. Pay for parking, do not try to save a buck by finding on street parking.
Zoo is great. Science center is fantastic. Grants farm is good. No idea how A-B brewery is anymore. Forest park is good and bad.

At least that's how it was a decade ago.

ETA;
LOL!!!
I really need to read posting dates.
Never mind....

I took my daughter to the arch a few years ago and without a thought emptied my pockets for the metal detector and without even thinking dropped a 9mm round in the basket from a day at the range the day before. You would have thought I dropped a grenade in there! Finally a supervisor was called over and it was decided that I wasn’t there to take over the arch, the evil round was disposed of and we were allowed to continue on.

STL is an interesting city.  There was a shooting right in from of the city hall last Friday at like 8am.  One homeless guy was chasing another homeless guy and shooting at him.  A cop was there for some reason (city hall) and shot the homeless guy doing the shooting.   Both homeless guys dead.

A year or so ago a guy was shot execution style on the sidewalk on Tucker downtown.  He was sitting on the sidewalk and the shooter was standing behind him.  The gun malfunctioned and it took him a bit to clear it but he got it done.  Monday morning at 10am in downtown STL.

I watch local news in the mornings and between the shootings and people running over people on sidewalks and running though the front of buildings it makes me never want to go back downtown.
