Neighborhood is on a dirt road set back from the main road, so someone had to walk up ~100 yds into the hood to get to it. Keys were left in the ignition while unpacking groceries & came back out to see it driving away.

50/50 on it being targeted vs random. White 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 with ~$800 HAM radio equipment installed, almost paid off. Lic #C42425H, in case you come across it. Reported quickly to SnoCo Sheriffs, & were active in the area through the night & next day, but no hits, which makes me think it was planned & possibly coordinated to stash it quickly, & probably not too far from us.

PSA: Don't leave your keys in the ignition & walk away from it, kids.

UPDATE: truck was found in Anacortes & towed back today. Apparently smells like a meth lab. Haven't looked closely at it yet. Insurance is going to inspect for damages.

Wow-  that sucks. I’ll BOLO.

Sobering reminder to not leave keys in ignition, anywhere, anytime. Hope it gets recovered, and scum bags rounded up, but oh, this is on the wet side of Washington state

Never leave keys in ignition
Never leave garage door open
Never leave car unlocked
Never leave goodies in car in plain sight
Always carry
Always be in condition yellow

So many lessons have to be re-learned for some unfortunately

That's sad to hear, hopefully he gets a decent payout. Unfortunately insurance never makes a person whole. Especially with truck prices what they are.

Mobile methlab. I’m sure that truck has stories to tell.

2015 Silverado… I’m guessing it didn’t have on star or the thief’s pulled the antenna or module?

Yep we had a family friend have an E series van get stolen a few years back. When it was recovered and they were contacted they were told it's basically totalled because of chemical residue unless your insurance will pay out for a full replacement of interior and HVAC system.

Not if its permeated the fabrics and interiors. You'd have to strip everything to the structure, clean the structure, then reinstall new interiors. Thats a lot of labor/$$. Not cost effective. Insurance would just total it.

Is there a place that has info on what signs to look for to check how much of such chemicals are in the interior? Is it smell? Residue? Would they have had to cook meth in it?

I ask because I may have bought truck with meth biohazard label on it.

Truck has 9k miles on it and the interior looks clean other than the muddy tracks in it and small amount of “personal type” meth useage; one 2”x3” foil piece and a couple insulin type syringes

I think it did, but for some reason they couldn't utilize it, or maybe they stopped service. I'll ask next time I speak with them.

https://www.amazon.com/Methamphetamine-Residue-Detection-Test/dp/B00BNEDSQ0

But there's probably a difference in risk between a truck that someone smoked meth in, and a van used to transport constituent chemicals and manufacture.

Thanks…I mean this truck literally has all the arfcommer’s “wet dream” options in a pickup truck…manual crank windows manual locks, manual mirrors, etc, but the door panels are getting changed due to a bullet hole, or some Sharp object going through the  door panel and stopping inside the door(making an outward dent….45acp?😏

Anyway the spare parts we have are power optioned so those are going in anyway😂

How would one plan ahead that the owner would leave the keys?  A concerned Arlington neighbor wants to know.

I mean you might consider contacting a mobile detailing outfit and be honest about the situation. Nothing to lose from just asking.

Or get an ozone generator, a spot cleaner, and DIY it.

You'd also be surprised how many odors and other stuff will just disappear by misting the entire interior with ozone spray and then leave full blast heat going for several hours while the vehicle idles with the windows cracked open a tiny bit.

One time I left for the week and left my Jeep parked in the driveway with the top down. It wasn't supposed to rain. Then while I was away it dumped a torrential rainfall. I came back to nearly a foot of standing water in the tub. After I drained it all out, closed up the top, the above cleared the musty smell out completely.

Neighborhood kids would know. They are watching.

I had stuff stolen from a truck while I was moving in. They did it between trips from the truck to the house and I never saw them.

Thanks, I’ll look into that. The whole interior is getting taken out anyway, to do work on the truck, so it won’t be hard.

It doesn’t smell like anything abnormal in there now, it’s been outside rain/sun, no mold/funny smells, but I’m kinda paranoid now, so I’ll look at doing an every nook/cranny clean up.

Rams are pretty easy to take part/assemble. I can’t say this will be the first one, maybe the 4th/5th?
