Finally escaping (within the next few months, 3 max)!
Thoughts, concerns? We’ve visiting the area many times, and all things considered feel like we might the right choice. Chicago is going to get worse, very soon. |

Don't bring Chicago voting habits here. Other than that, Huntsville is a great place for work and to raise a family.

Congrats!
I look forward to hearing about your move, opinions, and experiences. I think you chose fairly well. |

Have you picked a particular place to move and live? Harvest is getting ready to explode due to the new hospital they are building there.
Madison has great schools - or at least did when I had my two kids in school there. Good luck! |

We’ve visited the city a few times and put in an offer in on a home after looking at probably 40 houses. We actually wanted Owen’s Cross Roads, but couldn’t find what we wanted in our price point. We like the town, and my wife is in the aerospace industry so it’s a no brainer. Hoping to close next month, and should be down there fulltime by June, or sooner! |

It seems most in Huntsville are not native anyway, so it works out! That’ said, everyone we spoke with were super great, including a Deputy who gave us some pointers. |

Given my screen name, you can bet I’ll hit up every restaurant in town and give them a review. It does seem the Huntsville is lacking Ramen and Pizza, but I’m biased now coming from Chicago (thin crust only). |

We moved to the general area this past October. So far, so good, but I've been visiting Huntsville for ~20 years, so kinda know what I was getting into.
You and your wife have jobs in/around Huntsville? |

They have another location at the Stovehouse. I haven't tried it, but the reviews are favorable. |

View Quote I got you! Looking around on Instagram, there’s not really any decent pages with proper reviews and recommendations…perhaps I will fix that. Once we get down there (leaving in the morning), and have everything situated, I’ll fire up Excel and maybe blog about it on Twitter, which I’ll need to change my Twitter handle or just start a new one. Huntsville is growing, and on the surface, has lots of dining options! Until then, we had Ramen in Chinatown today for lunch. Probably the last decent bowl until we take a trip to our spot in Atlanta. Side note; does anyone know of anything filming in town? Movies, shows, series, etc.? Attached File |

Not a huge Dreamland fan. I prefer Chuckwagon and Boarhog's for BBQ. |

Currently trying to paint the bedrooms and office in the new house, as carpet will be installed in a few weeks. So many little project, starting to wonder if we should have just built a new home instead of buying 10 year old home. |

I also managed to find a filming gig for 5 days of a 29 day movie project, mostly in Nashville however, not much going on in Alabama per my agent. Flying back to Chicago soon and will finish packing up the Condo, as the movers will be there on 7/30 and we will be completely gone from the City. Attached File |

Connors Steak and Seafood was highly recommended.
Place was packed. My steak was overcooked, the grilled asparagus not good and wet. The lobster bisque was delicious. I'm assuming it was a fluke. As the place has lots of good reviews and was completely packed. ... The steak at Shagnasty's was actually much better and cheaper. It's been the best steak in the Huntsville area so far. It's a biker bar type place. LOL .. Ate at Top of the River in Guntersville last week. Not impressed. Steak was mostly gristle. Shrimp overcooked. My date got the steak with deviled crab, not that good to me. .. Went to Prohibition a few months back. Not impressed. |

My wife did say one of the best Restaurants in the area is Commerce Kitchen downtown. We’ve been to Connor’s and it was just ok, and bit pricey for Alabama IMHO. My wife and her friend went to Shagnastys a few weeks ago while I was on a shoot, and they said it wasn’t their type of place and they didn’t eat anything from there. Haven’t been to Guntersville or Prohibition yet, but Prohibition looked busy this past Friday when we went to a Trash Pandas game. Probably heading back to Chicago on Wednesday, and won’t be back here in 7/30. |

8 more days and we’re Alabama bound!
Last week I drove another truck full of our things down there in order to free up space for the movers…what a chore and I missed Cola Warrior SE due to logistics and time constraints. |

Sadly we don’t have a pool and neither does our neighborhood. It’s difficult to buy something from out of state and not know the area well enough. The movers will be here on the 30th (not much left here anyway) and we are driving my truck down right after they leave. Should be down there later that night or the next morning as it’s only a 10 hour drive. |

In Guntersville you want to go to The Rock House, downtown. Charming old home converted. Really good food. Top of the River is only decent for fried catfish, used to be much better.
Phil Sandovals is good Mexican off University Dr. Connors is usually good. Grew up in SE Huntsville, great city except for the stupid road layout. Most recent time there I lived in Providence. Saw an add for an indoor range off Leeman Ferry, barrel and something. Looked like a nice indoor range. Live outside Birmingham now, if I can help, holla. Oh, choose War Eagle as your adopted fan base, Bammers suck. |
