The APC activities are interesting. Anyone want to get together this spring and ruck some flattish trails?  I’m thinking the Rome-Syracuse-Watertown region.

Lots of great areas on Tug Hill, but muddy and make sure you don’t coincide with SNERT.  I always wanted to poke around salmon river upstream but never any time.

I hear you - I usually do 4-5 mile solo rucks every other day after work - takes me a little over an hour, then a quick shower and I'm eating dinner at 6pm. On the weekend I try to do a longer one if I'm up for it, but does eat up most of the afternoon.

We could aim for one group ruck a month. I do mostly flat solo rucking but I need to learn to slow my pace - after 5-6 miles I feel too run down.

I hear ya. Family first.

But it’s funny; all my free time AT work is spent dealing with kids.

I’m interested. I’m in Otsego County.

I coach soccer but maybe can get away a few times this spring/summer.

After April, you bet.

ETA: wife and I do the Highland Forrest loop a few times (around 8-9 miles) in preparation for the high peaks.

I should do that with my kids to prep them for the high peaks, they are champs when they are up there.

I am kind of in - will show up for food and drinks after, or maybe hike (weights sound bad to me) maybe if there is a way to do a shorter distance. I struggle with some medical issues, and do not want to chance foot issues...

But always in for social events!

I would be interested in the spring. Tough to get free time during the spring semester.

I would be interested in doing something in my AO.  I am in the southern Adirondacks.

Though after looking over the APC levels, I am not going to worry about reaching any level of rating, just going out and hiking at a decent pace with gear and meeting some likeminded folks.

I did have APC in mind, it'd be nice to get some local stuff going, but also just looking for group hikes. We might try for a monthly group hike at a certain location, moving it around so eventually it's closer to someone wanting to join in.

I don't know that there are many public areas in NYS where we could bring rifles, but who knows..

I’d like to propose this:  train on our own and we’ll decide on a date in mid April where we all get together for a decent size hike, like 6 miles.  No rifles. Refreshments afterwards.
Since we are from all over, no location will be ideal for everyone.  But I’ve got some spots picked out that we can consider.

I could probably make that happen if I knew far enough in advance.   I'll try my best.

I know a few spots in the Adirondacks where I wouldn't think twice about rucking with a rifle and load out but it's going to be off the beaten path and more woods hiking than "trail" hiking so as to avoid the trail tourists.

My rucking weight plates arrived, and I stuffed them in an old Camelbak Mule. I have better packs, but I wanted to test it out.
After a few sets of dips and pushups after work, I donned my 30lbs and jumped on the treadmill. Now, before y’all jump up and protest that treadmills aren’t the same as moving across the ground, I put it at 3.5 mph, not 3mph, and incline level 2.0.
I did 3.5 miles in an hour and my shirt was pretty drenched. I have confirmation that the Mule™️ is not comfortable. No proper hip belt and weakly padded shoulder straps. It’s going to take a few workouts to get used to the weight. As an ADK hiker I usually scale down the weight as much as possible.

I've given GoRuck a lot of money over the years - boots and packs. (boots and cats and boots and cats and...)

I haven't tried their clothing because it doesn't come in "tall".. but I find the boots quite comfortable on paved roads. Bit iffy on snowy/icy paths but I haven't tried their latest footwear.

I do have an extra pack that I'd bring when we do a group outing.

I haven’t forgotten you, brothers. After my coffee this morning I had a vanilla protein smoothie with 1/2 a banana, frozen berries, a mandarin orange and coconut water, and came to the gym.

30lb pack
3.5 mph
Incline level 5.0
60 minutes

And remember - kids can ruck too! Or someone can use them as extra weight in their pack!

I've thought about doing one of those before, or the MudRunner, or ZombieRun... but look at that price - cheapest option is $116?

I'm thinking about trying for ColaWarrior in June (PA is close enough)... but I've never assembled an AK and I don't like peeps.

The 1st gathering of The Empire State Arf-Road Ruckers (I just made that up) is in the books.
I showed up to ruck in shorts, but the wind and morning temps forced me into some hiking pants I had in my vehicle.  The sun came out and the wind died down (sometimes) and a good time was had by all.

And afterwards we had lunch. I’m not sure what this sign meant, but I waited until ADKtrapper was done before I entered.
