Hi Folks,

I'm crazy busy as I'm sure you all can imagine but wanted to give you an update on how the range is coming along. The ranges for the most part complete we poured the last concrete lid this past week. We still have to do a complete air seal around them but for the most part every thing is pretty well good to go. The decking is going up on the roof of the main structure we should be dried in by the end of next week. This is a big week for us as the framing for all the classrooms, offices and retail area will begin, prep work for the range equipment and range HVAC begins next week as well. Really excited things are starting to come together so far we are still slightly ahead of schedule. It's amazing how fast this thing is going up, I give all the credit to our awesome GC. As I mentioned before the big thing concern here is the range equipment install. I think between all the concrete and steel we are putting in this building we have to be setting some kind of record for total building weight for a building our size. FYI, I believe in the philosophy an armed society is a polite society so LE and CCW can enter the facility hot. Just be mindful, for obvious safety reasons you are not allowed to carry hot in certain areas of the facility where dry fire exercises may take place such as the classrooms, dojo and simulator room. Our air handling system is state of the art and maintains a perfect 71 degrees year around. As far as lights on the range go you may as well be shooting outdoors we have so many lights installed on the range and if that isn't enough each target carrier is equipped with an on board 660 lumen LED light. I will do my best to continue with the updates and I hope to see everyone come out and enjoy the new facility.

Went by the site today and found that it is the building furthest from Balls Ford Rd.  Looking forward to the trailer being setup later this month to start the membership process.

Have a nice day.

I just did a quote - looks like OP edited the post after I quoted.  Might have added that back in and I missed it.  Thanks for the heads-up.  I'm about to have a mini-stroke I'm so excited.

any chance of reduced memberships for the first group to sign up? an "early adopter" benefit, so-to-say?

Went right by there early this morning did not see any new trailer on site yet.
Perhaps it's coming soon.

Hi Folks,

I'm sorry the trailer is coming hopefully by August 11th. I had to negotiate a deal with our neighbor as my GC didn't want it on site because of all the asphalt and concrete work yet to be done. Add the permitting, ordering the trailer, electricity, IT stuff etc., etc…. you guys know the drill. Anyway the trailer will be located right across the street from our patio on the west side of the building. You will be able to see it from PW Pkwy pretty easy so keep an eye out. We will most definitely let everyone know when we are operational. As far as the project goes we are continuing to move forward at a rapid pace the building is dried in. Both the Range and HVAC equipment companies have been on site for a few weeks prepping the ranges for install. This Monday 8/4 we start hanging steel baffles which is extremley exciting for us. As always check us out on FB for more realtime updates and Thanks for the interest.

I can’t wait for your range to open and wish you the very best of success ahead.

A quick couple questions if I may.

Will prone shooting be allowed on the 100 yard range?

Does your "Military discount” apply to "Veterans Id” or ONLY "Active or Retired” ID?

Thank You ! Yes you will be able to shoot prone on the 100 yard range. With that said a couple of cool things about the 100. The lanes are 5 feet on center so lots of room to stretch out. In each booth is an ambidextrous shooting bench that clicks into the divider with magnets. They are easily removed should you want to stand, kneel or shoot prone. Keep in mind the goal here is to get all the rounds in the backstop. The booth dividers are also 8 feet long so you don't have to worry about the muzzle blast from your neighbor. They also contain live video feed back so you will be able to see hits on target in real time no need for a spotting scope.

Thank You for your service our Military discount is for everyone who served past and present

Hi Folks,

Just a little update we are still on track for an October opening which is great although it may be closer to mid October. Most of the sheetrock is done and they started painting this week. The big what if is the range equipment they are knocking it out but they had delays having to work around other folks, mainly additional features this range will have in the way of sound abatement and fire protection. All in all we are pretty much on schedule. We are hoping to start range orientations in the trailer this upcoming weekend. Trying to do everything paperless and get it all integrated with our point of sales system has been a challenge to say the least. The good thing is we have a lot of time so no one is really missing out on anything just yet. I will be back on AR-15 before weeks end to let everyone know if we are operational in the trailer this weekend. Thanks again for everyones patience.

Hi Folks,

Well I told you I would let you know if we were operational for this weekend and unfortunately my IT folks are close but not quite there. Even though they are staying through the night to work on it I do not have the confidence to say we will be good to go for this weekend. As mentioned before we will let folks know as soon as we are operational.

Thanks Again

Thanks for the updates ... and not using the HTF for some marketing hard-sell.

Tonight a question came to mind, as I read you avatar's message of the "Nation's Most Advanced Indoor Shooting Range."

A 'competitor' of yours (SEG) had a similar theme ...

Which then brought to mind, completely unbidden, the following question ...

Do you or your family give lots of money to politicians intent on banning guns?

Pardon me for asking what I hope you regard as a ridiculous, ludicrous question, but "once burned, once learned."  (Heartfelt apologies if this has already been addressed.  I periodically read this thread, and don't recall the topic being broached.)

Here is a link to some info on Greg Wodack, Proprietor of E.S.S.:

https://www.facebook.com/EliteShootingSports/posts/143549609155790

While I cannot say that I personally know Greg, I can say that I have dealt with him when he was running the NRA HQ range.

He is a good guy.

Cut him some slack.

Fair question.

I knew Greg personally for about 8 years when he was the NRA range manager.  This is utterly and completely not an issue.  Greg is one of us.
...............................................................................

A different thought while I'm at it.

I appreciate that we all want to get a break on range fees (which admittedly can really add up!).  I'm the same way.

But the cost of building this range complex has got to be absolutely astronomical.  And add to that the cost of simply keeping it running - be it salaries, routine maintenance, filtration, insurance, taxes, and even daily cleaning (which was always a good point with the NRA range and a bad point with some other ranges I've been to).

I'd think this place is going to need to start bringing in money pretty quickly.

Here in NOVA it seems like every week I pass a shuttered business of someone's failed dream.

Please, let's not take this wonderful sounding facility for granted.  It could plain and simply fail and become yet another empty building with a "for lease" sign on the outside.

While hopefully their fees won't be exorbitant, they are going to have to stay afloat financially - and it's certainly in our collective best interest that they do.

Thanks.  I know.

And having personally known Greg for several years, I'm sure he's absolutely committed to the fees posted.

Still, the place hasn't even opened and the cynic in me wants to see more than just a posting.  Things change, and there have already been some changes on the website since I first visited it.

Granted, perhaps memberships are already being taken in the trailer?  I don't quite understand the significance of this trailer (beyond maybe hiring folks or just talking about the range complex).  Anyone know?

Hi Folks,

Now that I have once again addressed my political views, on to the update. To answer a few questions recently brought up. The trailer has really been a multi use office for me over the last month. It is important for me to be on site to deal with the hundreds of construction questions that come up daily. We are also meeting with vendors, interviewing staff and doing tons of administrative stuff in preparation for opening. As of my construction meeting today we are still on track for a Mid-October Opening. The place is looking great they started painting the walls, the restrooms and locker rooms are tiled, today carpet was going into the offices, things are really starting to take shape. If you have a moment take a look at our FB page it contains some really nice recent photos. I'm a shooter, we built this range for shooters you either like what we have to offer or you don't, there's no hard sell. If you would like to drop by the trailer and say HI please feel free to do so, maybe sit down and watch our orientation video, who knows you may walk out with a membership. We will be there 9am -3pm tomorrow and 10am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Thanks for the updates. I was by there today and you guys (the shooting community) have NO IDEA how nice this place is. In person it is HUGE. Think of a Costco sized shooting facility. I cannot wait to throw some lead downrange in 71deg comfort while it's snowy and crappy for months at a time. I belong to FRGC and it is beautiful but I'm a pansy below about 45 deg.  I have also had the fortune to shoot and compete in ranges around the country and this will rank up there at the top. Truly a world class facility. I figure the nations capital is overdue for something like this. I can see it as a draw like Bass pro shops etc are down in Frednecksburg.

Really looking forward to training classes too. I need it, as well as the friends I've helped into the sport lately.

ESS, I heard a rumor that on site storage will be available for people. Is that in the works?! That would be huge for my friends in the Peoples Republic of DC.

I live right on 234, so I'm all over that.  Is there a specific time I can come by?  I don't want to wander around aimlessly asking to "talk to that guy from the Internet".  But if you're taking membership apps, I'll fill one out.

Thanks,
Les

I was able to meet a few folks today Thank You so much for your support. For those who would like to check us out here are a few tips to help you find us. As you come down Doane Dr. from Ballsford Road it dead ends into a construction trailer with the building directly behind it, THAT IS NOT OUR TRAILER veer slightly right and continue down the private drive and half a block down on the right hand side directly across from the building is another grey trailer with a white skirt around it. That is the Elite Shooting Sports trailer. Sorry but we are not allowed to put any signs on it but you will see one of the two doors unlocked just come on in. We are there week days from 9am-3pm and weekends beginning this Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm. We are looking to add evening hours for folks coming home from work soon. We appreciate your patience as we are still working out a few bugs.
