Post a pic of your deer rifle.  After you take a deer, edit your post and post a pic of it.  Those who have no edits (didn't get a deer) when the gun season is over are required to post a pic of them donating a toy to "Toys for Tots".

ETA:  I just finished this 2 days ago.  Savage 110, 30-06, Lug and Barrel Nut from Jim at NSS, Obermeyer 26" MTU pipe, "Tacticool" stock (sanded off the black paint and stained), bedded, floated, tuned factory trigger, bolt knob, 20 min base, Seekin's rings, Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 4.5-14 Tactical (mil).

It's my tribute to the M40, a mix of wood and flat black.  Sort of old school but with the A5 feel and in the original caliber.

Shoots 170 Sierra Pro Hunters pretty good.

Not this year (obviously), and I don't have a photo of the firearm.  It was a Remington 11-87 shooting a big ass Brenneke slug.  But here's the deer.  It'll give you guys something to shoot for.

Even though I hunt in a no doe tag zone where the deer herd was decimated by last winter... I'll play.

Any concern with not having enough gun for WI deer?

My son wants to hunt next year, and I was considering building a 300 BO.  Shoot some 120gr'ish bullets.  Should be enough?  Most shots are less than 200 yards where we hunt.

I will play and I will up the Ante with pictures of my deer hunting tools.  If I don't get a deer with any of them I will donate a toy per each.

New out west rifle, but I am going to shoot a WI deer with it, just because.  A-Bolt in 300 Win Mag

.50 Beo.  It looks a little different, I have a 1.5-4x scope on it now

I used a 300 blackout last year and dropped a buck w/ one shot. Granted it was a spinal shot at llike 30 yards but it still dropped it. That was also w/ 125 gr sierra soft point. I am switching to a 125 grain ballistic tip nosler this year.

Make it bucks only for everyone, to even the odds, and no excuses are needed. Those with doe tags have at least 50% more targets than those without.

Yup, I guess it would. If I had a doe tag, I could just whack one of the bitches that gobble up my wife's garden, shoot her right from my deck.

BTW... I saw a bunch of deer moving around today, more than I've seen in a long time (all does, but lots of them). The rut must be starting, or will be very soon. Deer are getting active. I was on my way home from duck hunting, driving through the city of Eagle River about 5:45pm, when 3 does ran across the road in front of me and I almost got one. Ironically, they came out of the parking lot of my State Farm Insurance guy's office. Damned city deer don't know how to cross a highway.

Cost a bit north of $1k including everything as you see it.

Really depends how well you shop and what sales you catch including some used parts and what options you want.  Took me about 6 months of shopping including finding a used receiver.  Some $$ could be saved using a MOE stock and going blue with the barrel, not stainless, not threading it etc.  MGM barrel was a few dollars south of $500 just the barrel.

Turned out really nice looking, accurate, handy and short although I can't say it's as light as I'd hoped.  I think I want a contender\G2 frame and barreled to match in 30\30 or 357 maximum.

6.8 Ko-Tonics chrome-lined barrel, opened to SPCII specs by MichiGuns.  Have taken 9 deer with it so far, using 110-gr Sierra Pro-Hunters loaded to about 2600.  Old Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8 that I picked up off eBay...don't think it's ever been turned above 2.5 in the woods, as the longest shot on the deer has been about 70 yards.  Since the pic was taken, I replaced the rail with an MI Gen 2 SS, had SLR15 pin on a gas block, moved to a Burris scope mount, and installed a collapsible stock.  Barbie for men.

I'm not a "serious" hunter, and I lucked into the last 9.  Now that something's riding on this--even just toys for a good cause--I'm sure I won't get one this year.

.450 Bushmaster 16" on a DPMS lower with an A2 stock. Nikon Slughunter 3-9 scope in a Burris P.E.P.R. mount. Shooting Hornady 250 grain ammo.
The deer was taken October 4th, 2014 during the Disabled Hunt in southern Shawano county. 100 yard shot. Buck dropped in his tracks.

Looks like some of us "up north" guys will be hunting in snowshoes. We got about 5" snow over the past weekend, another FOOT since yesterday, and it's still snowing with another 4-6" expected today. Won't be any problem with tracking.

eta... 20"+ snow has fallen in Eagle River area since last Friday, and it's snowing moderate to heavy now (lake effect) on Thursday (11/13). Glad I'm not hunting in the U.P. this year.... Some areas are approaching 50"+ and still snowing. The MI season opens 11/15.

The snow hasn't stopped them from moving. My neighbor has a backyard feeder, and a lot of the deer that use it cut through my woods to get to it. I've seen 6 does so far this morning (looking out my bedroom window) cutting through behind my house to get to that feeder. Bunch of fresh tracks out in front (visible through living room window) from last night, too. Still snowing hard, my wife has today off for Veterans Day, and I'm taking a "snow day"... so I haven't gone out to plow yet. I'll just wait until it quits.

Deer gun season opened Nov 1st down in Texas so I'm a bit ahead of the game.  My flight for the Wis gun season gets into MKE at 4:30...can't wait to hit the road.  The guys have been seeing a lot of deer in Marquette County.

FYI...Not everything is bigger in Texas!  Central Texas deer are tiny compared to what I grew up shooting in Wis.

Thank you, that pic does not do it justice. The rifle was a gunshow purchase. The barrel was replaced by Fox Valley Firearms (thanx Nate) and I found the stock at Gus's Guns (thanx Dan). After the South Dakota trip produced an antelope with the 6724 Colt I then was fortunate enough to bag a mulie with a different Garand...a Blue Sky import  The thing is an incredible firearm. It inspired me to give this old rifle a facelift and try for a WI season buck with it. And hey what a great idea this thread is for the kids.

Good stuff guys.  My rifle won't be finished until Thursday.  I'm retiring my BAR after 25 years, and changing it up a bit by taking an AR into the woods this year. (LR308)   The Timney trigger, LaRue LT104 scope mounts, and MI rail will be here Wednesday, to go with my new Leupold VX-6  1-6.  Off to the range on Thursday.   Woods on Saturday.   Will try and post photos if we have success.  Hunt safe and shoot straight, everyone.

Well, I'm done for the weekend and all I got was scratches on my pretty new rifle.

I was in Delafield and nothing was moving around.  Four of us were on about 170 acres with a mix of corn, marsh and woods.  Saturday morning some duck hunters on neighboring land made sure nothing was in the area, we pushed through the brush in the late morning (nothing was in there) and I sat in the woods in the afternoon.  When I came out of the woods into the corn field I spotted one about 250 yds away.  It was way to hazy to make a shot so with nothing to lose I started moving closer but she got spooked and took off.  This morning in a stand (from before sunup to the rain) on the edge of a clearing with tons of beds around and I didn't even see anything.

Four bucks and a doe taken from this land during bow season this year and cams show tons around.  I figured they would be up and moving around with the warmer weather.

Got this big guy in Marinette county this afternoon around 2:30pm. Sitting up in my tree just about ready to head in to the cabin for some food when I look over about 30-40 yards into a thicket and see a deer. I pull up on it and see it's a doe, then I see another doe, and another doe and decide to get my phone out to take a video as they're headed right towards me and I don't have a doe tag.  Just as I get my phone out of my pocket, i see another deer with some bone! Set the phone down and pull up on the buck. All I see is head and neck and take the shot.  After the shot, he took off running away from me.  Crap, I missed, or I'm about to track some blood...about 10-20 seconds go by and I hear some crashing and branches breaking over where I shot.  I look over and see him stumbling around and collapse about 5 yards from where I shot him.  Was using Hornaday .223 from my AR (open sights).  There was zero blood on the ground where I shot him and only a tiny entrance wound.  Luckily, I hit I'm right in the vitals and saw him collapse of else I would have never found him.  I think I'll stick with the usual 12ga slug gun from now on.

Got this big guy in Marinette county this afternoon around 2:30pm. Sitting up in my tree just about ready to head in to the cabin for some food when I look over about 30-40 yards into a thicket and see a deer. Nice buck! It's always cool to see folks roll with open sights.

You could only see it's head and neck and you still shot at it's chest?
