PX9505L, chambered in 9mm.  This was when I first got it.  A little troublesome at first, but after sending it back to Springfield, they fixed it and it now runs great.

My turn!

Just a Mil-Spec that I started upgrading.  I want to have the sights replaced, but I'm not sure what with yet.  Fun to shoot.

I know this is a Springfield thread, but I took a beat up military Colt 1911 (1914 mfg.) that was loose as could be.  I did some basic mods.  No Novaks or Heinie's, no light rails, no barstock hammer, sear, or special trigger, no beavertail, no magwell, no checkering, no match barrel.  I think I had a total of $450 into this gun, and it shot as well as any 1911 I ever picked up.  Did I mention it was ugly?  It got sneers from my friends, who are used to custom 1911s, but it was beautiful to me, since it shot like a dream and never malfunctioned.  The point is, we see these high end guns in magazines and feel we need all the bells and whistles, when we really don't.  Here's that ugly Colt.  Chris157c, your gun is a beauty queen compared to this.

img116.exs.cx/img116/6707/gunpics0594be.jpg

Uhhh.... where's the ugly part?

This pic did not do the gun justice, regarding ugly.  Whoever owned it before me sent it to a gunsmith here in Az. who will remain nameless.  That guy polished the gun and reblued it, after improperly fitting a match bushing and doing a horrible trigger job.  The guy had bad technique on the buffing wheel and left, for lack of a better term, ripples in the surface.  Short of surface grinding it, which I was not going to do, there was no getting rid of the ripples.  I bead blasted it and reblued it.  You can see the heat treat line just behind the t in patent on the slide, and the slide forward of that is much darker.

The good part of this story is that I sold it to a guy from this board, and sold it to him cheap.  He is a young operator in a very elite unit of our armed forces, and is probably in a sandy place making good use of this weapon now.  That does my heart good.

I just got a Colt not too long ago and was wondering what that line of different shading was on the slide.  Is this something done at the factory?  My 1911 A1 says United States Property  and M 1911 A1 U.S.ARMY on it and it is from 1943.  Should I refinish mine?  I don't plan on selling it, EVER.

^^^^ I agree, OD green is a great color.  Funny thing was this one was $10 LESS than the monotone black  XD40...so it made my choice even easier.

Just added a hogue grip today...

feels even better in my hands now.

I called Don to get his impression on those $300 FM HiPowers in SGN. He says he's built a few without issue.  If i didn't have so many irons in the fire, i'd pick up the Detective model send it to Don for his street package.  $300 gun + $295 package = sweeeeeeeeeeeeet

My late dad used Duracoat Lime Green on it during one of his many moods.

It was many colors, its finally in Parked finish right now, as he was planning on respraying it to another color.

I liked the Lime Green too.....I'll probably try my hand at it, and see what I can do, it shouldnt' be that hard, as I still have all the stuff/paint.

But it wore REALLY well....at least for Duracoat.

Its a little hard on the eyes at first, but it grows on you!
