I see. I thought they might be, and then decided they were not. Look more "golfballish" in the pic. Less pointy.

I sanded the grips to my liking. The Gunners are way too pointy as is for summertime CCW.

My 1988 vintage BHP.  I bought it used with work done by Novak.  Sights, C&S wide trigger, rounded the spur on the hammer.  I did the grip work, a standard set of wood panels that a dremeled down and sanded smooth.  The slide has a 'witness' line machined down the center that I still have never seen on any other BHP.

MKII HiPowers ('82-'88)had a rib on top of the slide. Most commonly encountered Hipowers are MKIII ('88-present) or pre MKII (T, C series)...neither of which have the rib. I believe the MKII are parkerized as well. I've only encountered a couple of MK II in person. I like them, but the ones I've seen still used small sights. I recently had a MKIII parkerized to look like a MKII...it just seems right.

Shaffer,

That HP is practically all I want mine to be.

That sand job on the Gunner's looks great; exactly how I wish they were.  I'll have to get a pair and try that.

I love the Heinies too.  Have the same ones on my 1911, and Straight 8s on my Glock.

I really love your pistol, overall; did you shave down the protruding end of the slide release?  I'm going to do that on mine because I'm a lefty, and if I'm not careful I can push it out on 1911s when I shoot.  Never happened yet with a HP.

I'm going to have to relegate my FN to the safe and just get a MKIII to use as a platform.  It has that SFS garbage (well to me it's garbage).  It'll cost me half of what a MKIII runs to get replacement parts for it, so I might as well get a new pistol .

I crossed the line, I bought a gun I fully intend to NEVER shoot...  Those five missing rounds are all this 1969 9mm has put down range.  It is 100% and was purchased at a Portland gun show for only $500.  Yep, they are out there.

What a great deal.  Would have bought it in a heartbeat.

I don't blame you,  I wouldn't shoot it either - but I have other HPs to shoot.

I'm sorry their Trumpet, I guess you and Baby Jesus would cry if you ever found out I have two more Brownings I don't shoot.  But the good news Criley is I indeed have two more that I shoot all the time.

Here's the proof....  the three down the right side of the picture are no shooters.  The top on is the 9mm HP pictured above, second one down, Model 1955 380, less than 1 box through it since new, the Baby also has less than one box and is in perfect condition.  On the left side of the picture the 1980 9mm HP is the one that got me started in this Browning escapade. It was my first Browning and my favorite of all my pistols to shoot.  It has had a trigger job and the mag. disconnect removed.  It is smooth as glass.  The 10/71 380 was bought to shoot even though it was very low mileage.

I just got this FEG clone a couple of days ago. It still had cosmoline packed under the barrel and around the firing pin. I think it had only been test fired. $260.00 OTD.
I have some Navidrex Grips on order from Brownells.

My FEG clone has one great trigger.  It gets finicky when it get a little bit dirty, though.  Doesn't like to extract after 150 rounds or so.

My HP.

I had a HP back in the early '80s, sold it because I needed money.  Recently bought a MKIII, because I missed the old one.  I found the plastic grips not to my liking, so I picked up some Herret's cocobolos.

It is now my favorite gun.

Looks good.

Thanks! My Father taught me a lot. There are a some good books out there too. George Nonte Jr's book, Pistolsmithing has a lot of good info, including stippling. Check out pistolsmith.com too. The job I did was not nearly as uniform as a good gunsmith can do. But it's totally functional.

Here's a couple of John Browning's offspring... cousins, if you will...

My Browning HP and F.N. HP-DA

both in 9x19, but the Browning was born in 1993 and the FN was born in 2003

The work was done by Don Williams/Action Works.  I'm pretty happy with the work, but I was bit disappointed when I noticed that the the top of the stippling on the front strap wasn't as straight as it could be.  It kinda angled up.  Other than that, the gun is good to go.  I'll try to post more pics.

It now has about 10,000 more rounds on it since this picture and except for the KKM Match Barrel breaking is holding up well. I've been real impressed with the Roguard/NP3 finish.

I've had this for about 15 years and have fired thousands of rounds through it.

Out of all the handguns I have owned, it is still my favorite to shoot.

Is it okay to "love" a gun?

Under construction, just cut for Heinies:

A future project (MKIII slide, war time frame):

A .40 I did a while back with Novaks, stippling, and flattened/serrated slide:

An old war time gun that was a rust bucket, C&S parts, checkering, etc:

A gun I got from the widow of an airline pilot, and it was his onboard carry gun:

Top gun, 9mm with MMCs, stippling, dehorn, etc.;
2nd down, Novaks on a very nice BHP that belongs to a guy here;
3rd, same BHP .40 as above;
bottom, same project gun above that got cut for Heinies:
