No 1911's, I want a double stack and the lower to be polymer. No Taurus or Canik's either. Has to have a decent trigger if possible.
Suggestions? The budget is set at $300 or less, any leads for police trade ins possibly? |
|
I'm just finishing an AR pistol in 7.62x39, I looked through all my old gear and traded a lot of it off for parts. When it's 100% done I'll be in it $300...

Very good to excellent condition police trade-in S&W M&P40 with night sights, 15rd mag, and retention holster for $299.99
Get a factory .357SIG barrel, 9mm conversion barrel, and some extra .40SW/.357SIG and 9mm mags and you're good to go. http://www.cdnnsports.com/m-p-40-n-s-vg-exc-nil.html#.VMM41mctHIU What do I win? |
|
Hipoint for $180. Tweak the mag lips and it will go bang every time. Yes it's ugly, yes it has a lifetime guarantee, yes if it gets stolen it will hurt less than just about anything else.
|
|
I'd say a Sigma/9vde or maybe a ruger p95. If you add $50 to the budget you can get one of the new Caniks.
|
|
you can find 3rd gen S&W guns around that price, unless your stuck on the polymer frame
|
|
Honestly, the S&W SD9VE is a lot of gun for $300. Don't let the internet braying and bleeting "durrrr it's a sigma" stop you.
If you can find a third gen smith in that price range still, it will likely be a DAO, full size, and in .40S&W. A CZ-83 milsurp is also pretty good for the price if you don't mind 9X18 makarov. |

Why bother with a SD when you can get a M&P in the same price range? At the very least, mags are the same price or cheaper than the SDs, APEX has more options for the trigger if you decide to upgrade, there are more options for holsters, and long term sustainability of the pistol in terms of spare parts is more likely due to the sheer volume being produced.
I'm not dogging on the SD. I think it's a vast improvement over Sigmas of the past, and with a set of APEX springs, it's certainly a viable option. |

Why I want polymer only, well this is Arizona so yeah, 'nuff said there I have to sell my Star Model B to fund this, I'm so not fond of that hinged trigger |

I bought a Walther PPX from CDNN and I like it. The bore axis is really high, but it functions as it should. Given the choice of the two for a car/house gun, I would go with the Canik Stingray all day long. What do you have against them? The Stingray is all metal, so I understand you not wanting that for an Arizona car gun, but the TP 9 has pretty darn good reputation.

PPX would be your best choice. Just remember to check pawn shops might be able to find something else.

That gun is a blocky mess of a pistol, to me looks matter, and that thing is FUGLY... Calm yerself, man. LOL, I totally agree that the PPX is one ugly stepchild of a gun, but the thing functions well, feels intuitive in the hand, holds 17 rounds and wouldn't get too hot in the summer as an Arizona car gun. Combine all that with the insanely low price and it's hard to beat for what the OP is looking for. For a gun to just stick in the console and not worry about, I sure don't care how the thing looks. He didn't say he wanted a "handsome console gun." |

Not a well known brand, but my nightstand gun right now is the FMK 9C1 G2. With the fast action trigger it breaks around 7-8lbs, so not too bad (it's...meh, really). Polymer lower, 23oz, 14+1 capacity in 9mm. Size and feel of a Glock 19, but they are going for less than $300 lately. I've fed around 500 rounds of reman and Hornady Critical Duty through mine with no problems. Oh, and the backstrap is rubberized so it feels great in your hand.

SIG 2022 goes for pretty cheap, you might could find one used. Controls would be the same as your p226.
My vote for what you are looking for would be: SIG2022 used M&P PPX used Glock In that order given your preferences that I am fairly familiar with. |
