I’m looking for a 22 mag revolver, but I don’t want a convertible. What are my options?

I have a 8-3/8” S&W Model 48 .22 mag, which happened to come with an extra .22 LR cylinder, but I always leave the mag cylinder in it b/c I scored a mint Model 17 in .22 LR a few yrs ago for less than half of what it was worth. Now I don’t have to swap cylinders. The 48 is very accurate. It’s an older 4 screw model.
No, the 17 isn’t stolen. A neighbor purchased a “lot” of 100+ guns prior to an estate auction. He had to take all of them to get the few guns he wanted. He asked me to help him research and catalog the guns he was going to sell that he was clueless about. He made me a deal on the 17 for helping him. |

Are the Taurus revolvers any good?

I wouldn’t recommend Taurus. I bought my son a blued model 94 22 LR and wish I’d found a S&W. I bought a used stainless steel model 94 and it would not fire on three over four chambers double action. The cylinder wasn’t machined square. I sent it to Taurus who replaced the cylinder but receipt said they replaced the springs and nothing about the cylinder. The 94 is out of production and even if they have a life time warranty you will wait for ever to get a replacement of a different model. Ruger Super Wrangler is on my radar even though I’d prefer a DA/SA revolver.

S&W 48. Perfect little brother to my S&W 19.

Ruger LCRx 3" is an option. My .22lr version is pretty bleh but I'd still like to check out the magnum version.

Rock Island Armory makes a .22mag revolver. I've never shot one, so I can't comment on quality.
I do own a Smith 648 6" bbl. I swapped in a lock delete kit as well as a slightly oversize cylinder release. Tons of fun to shoot. I don't know if Smith is still cataloging their Model 48 or not? |

I just helped a little old lady choose a Ruger LCRx in 22 WMR. Nice piece but a tad expensive in my opinion. Comes with the larger grip and 3” barrel. 6 shot.

I like my Heratige Barkeep .22 WMR with a 3" barrel,

SP101 or GP100 are options. I have a GP100 and it's awesome.

Not sure if Ruger still makes the "Single Nine" but it's a 22 Mag only. Ruger makes a few of their LCR revolvers in 22 Mag only. The big S&W 648 would be nice but it's not small.
I just bought a Single Six convertible and it shoots both very well. |

Take a look at the Charter Arms Pathfinder Revolver.
They make them in both combo and 22Mag and 22lr versions. I use a Target Pathfinder matte finish stainless steel model for my students in classes and have never had any problems with it. Accurate, easy to clean, with a good trigger and both DA/SA for teaching purposes. The 22Mag also makes a good small carry gun for people that can't handle recoil and has some pretty good ballistics, comparable to a .38 special. |

S&W 651 in more recent stainless production
Or older classic blued 51 Both the smaller J frame, there is also a current production J 22 mag can’t recall model number off hand. Older 48 also ( blue always looks better than stainless from my perspective) |

To my thinking a revolver is all about the trigger.
With a rimfire the springs can't really be messed with much and still be reliable. Stick with the S&W for double action . Buy once ,cry once |
