7 year old american eskimo/ shiba inu mix.
Started coughing over the weekend, but more of a clear my throat cough, figured she would eventually get it up and out.
Sporadic fits over two days, otherwise acting fine, eating, playing.
Took her in last night when it didn't get any better, vet heard the cough, ruled out any foreign objects, perfect xray of the airway, and a clearly reduced intra thoracic airway. Not cervical like typical, but deeper into the chest.
Very weird very acute sudden onset. No prior issues, ever, just a sudden manifestation of what is a chronic issue usually.
Trying a round of steroids to reduce any inflammation, but basically vet said nothing can realistically be done, it is a long and slow decline until eventually the airway entirely collapses. Stenting surgery is rarely successful, and other than a harness instead of a collar, said this is likely the way it will be for the months to years she has left.
Anyone have any experience with this? Any suggestions? I feel so bad for her, but the vet says it isn't bothering her. Can't even see how that can be
