I know that Google made this format, and I think they are the only ones who use it.  
It's annoying to save images to upload to ARF from Google image searches, only to realize they aren't usable because they saved as WebP files.
Then I have to go back and do a screen cap, or open in photo editor to covert to JPEG.
Always blame autocorrect.
