If anybody should be cracking down on not wearing seat belts it would be insurance companies. |

I will replace them soon, even though to the best of my knowledge there is nothing wrong with the plates I have. 4. Having my license plate lights out. I was pulled over twice within a week for this. It was news to me that they were out and I have since fixed them. 5. Once for changing lanes without signaling, again at night All of this is stupid in my opinion. I was never speeding, driving recklessly, or in possession of anything dangerous. I understand that opinions will vary, however. |

This is one of the classic modern debates where we have multiple things being debated at once, some of these things do tangentially relate, others do not, and some arguably pose no-win pyrrhic victory situations either way one goes.
In the mix here: - Erosion of "civil society" over a whole smorgasbord of issues/causes, and even some significant: "Same as it always was but now we just see it." From cop-cams, and smartphones and cheap video surveillance. Even the TV news transitioning from film to video back in the early 80s had an impact. - Police overreach legal abuses & use of force. Some, again is: "Same as it always was but now we just see it." Some is the increasing difficulty finding "quality individuals" that see being an LEO a viable career. Some is well intended training in response to officer deaths and injury, to "be ready," "ypu literally have one second," or "maintain control" that winds up getting trigger-happy or abusive. Or the corrosive psychology of dealing with 99 criminals or low-lifes, then one "normal person." etc. - Revolving door justice that is attempting to simply "SJW Away" embarrassing demographics of crime stats. There MAY... may (if only for sake of argument) be "contributing factors" in this. However, just like the "insanity defense" it's not: "Did mental illness contribute to your decision to commit the crime?" it is: "Was/is the mental illness so profound it obliterated any capacity to understand that committing the crime was wrong, or even a crime?" And non-prosecutuon & non-punishment of crime because the suspect or defendant is "category X" fails that basic test of both law and objective reason terribly. And inevitably, only makes things worse for the other law-abiding people in "category X" anyway. - And then there's the nasty Catch-22 pyrrhic victory problems. A lack of authoritarian force & response to certain things, be that official acts, or just unofficial spontaneous ones from the public, definitely does enable those who act in a manner that erodes civil society. And simultaneously, authoritarian force & responses also corrodes civil society too. Besides the broader legal civil liberty standards that have to apply for everyone, it is always enacted with some arbitrary bias. It is somewhat hyperbolic sure, but the "good ol' days" that better enabled or permitted an ass-kicking in response to attempting smash-n-grab flashmob looting/stealing, indeed lies on a continuum that enabled lynch mobs. And round and round we go. And most everyone is arguing from just one point or perspective above. Trying to lay it all out, it's just "tl/dr LOL." |

They see my plates and wonder "what I'm doing up here." I just learned that this was a thing. I assumed Texas plates were Texas plates. I will replace them soon, even though to the best of my knowledge there is nothing wrong with the plates I have. 4. Having my license plate lights out. I was pulled over twice within a week for this. It was news to me that they were out and I have since fixed them. 5. Once for changing lanes without signaling, again at night All of this is stupid in my opinion. I was never speeding, driving recklessly, or in possession of anything dangerous. I understand that opinions will vary, however.
