Not everyone was as excited by such an unapologetically queer Black Doctor Who though. A vocal contingent of keyboard warriors took to social media to claim the show had gone too ‘woke’.

From arguing that the show has been ‘torn apart by woke ideologues’ to creating their own social media trend #RIPDoctorWho, you don’t need to go far to find the litany of tired complaints.

But the bigoted straight white men who have spiralled into a meltdown clearly haven’t been paying attention to the reboot’s rich and ever-evolving history of multiculturalism and LGBTQ+ inclusion.

When Queer As Folk creator, Russell T Davies, brought Doctor Who back in 2005 it was clear from the get-go that this is a show for all the outcasts in society.

The 15th Doctor has already been confirmed as unapologetically queer, with a nod to Ncuti’s Rwandan heritage in his character’s screwdriver through a proverb inscribed in Gallifreyan.

Yes. Dr Who, which is a BRITISH TV show that started in, what, the 1960s, when GREAT BRITAIN was practically ENTIRELY white...

... was never for white people.

I have no idea what actors I know as Dr Who. I watched old reruns years ago.

To bad everything had to be gay garbage now.

Specifically white men. The show has had two female "Doctors" now that have said things like the women Doctors were better than the male ones or that the male ones weren't the main doctors. Also using terms like "male presenting" or "female presenting" when referring to doctors.

That's not what the article said.

It said that the "Reboot"/Continuation, which started in 2005, was deliberately slanted as Queer/Whatever, by Davies (which, given his comments and body of work, is probably correct).

Tom Baker was the BEST Doctor.

I still use one of his idioms, when appropriate, in business meetings with suppliers and subordinates.

“A little patience goes a long way, but too much patience goes nowhere.”

Matt Smith + Karen Gillan was the last season I really enjoyed.

Some of the Peter Capaldi episodes were good too.

Jodie Whittaker, was so terrible and woke that I gave up on the series completely after 2 episodes.  So bad that I never even though about the series after.

John Hurt, Peter Cushing, Richard E Grant, Peter Davison and Sylvester McCoy also deserve mentions.

But Tom Baker was the definitive Doctor.

I enjoyed up to Capaldi. Had to warmup to him a bit but most of that was because the writing was mostly crap his first season.

The thing about the writers with women and flamboyantly gay doctors is that they have to make everything around them effeminate and gay. They can't just be a woman, everything has to get infected. And that it was killed it for me.

It has a few commercials, but not too bad.

Apparently when I was a toddler it used to be my favorite show, EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE! I liked a few of the seasons around the Tennant's years, and just kind of lost interest at some point?

Capalidi is when I stopped watching it just because it wasn't entertaining to me.  I don't recall if I got thru the entire first season.  The two shows on BBC that I liked was Dr Who and Top Gear...  At least Grand Tour is still a thing.

I'd add Peter Davidson as well.........anything after him went downhill, although I thought Christopher Eccleston did a good job

i think Eccleston wasn't really what they wanted, but was palatable enough to get previous fans back into watching.  Once they got rid of him, they could slowly push towards the ultimate goal, which was full aggressive woke.

In the day, the writing wasn't so bad, but the budget was non-existant.  The green painted bubble wrap as an alien diseased arm was a low point, but the writing, acting, and standard definition tv allowed that to work.  The horrible writing in the reboot, which obviously got dramatically worse over time, just can't be overcome.

Can they come up with something for a woke crowd and leave established stuff alone?

I enjoyed the show as a kid. Tom Baker is my Doctor Who. Genesis of the Daleks. Good TV back then when TVs were built inside furniture.

Well, the doctor did steal a white blonde from her black boyfriend (oh the stereotypes), who was then relegated to the position of "tin dog," by his own admission. I don't believe your presumption is correct. That might have changed after a few seasons, but the initial reboot...not so much.

Oh and the first episode I saw was the Brain of Morbius, when I was 7. Tom Baker is the best Who!
