All DeSantis had to do was rent a building with a stage. Lights+cameras+media+energetic crowd. Then walk up to the podium and say "My name is Ron DeSantis and I'm running for president."

He couldn't even do that right. And he is going to run the country?

5 minutes after the DeSantis presidential announcement / twitter fiasco, I got a text from a former campaign colleague who said.. "F me. Trump just won the primary."  He was right. It wasn't ever close after that.

No all he had to do was peel off Trump supporters which think politics are a WWE wrestling match. Unfortunately he couldn’t dumb his campaign down enough to sell Bibles from a serial philanderer. Sucks when the electorate is borderline retarded. Trump figured this out long ago and is still profiting.

I do remember the Trump years, but I also remember the last few years that resulted from Trump not being able to beat Joe Biden, and am not looking forward to a repeat.

Before the primary, I was on the fence between Trump and DeSantis.  I full well believe that DeSantis would be the better president, but I had serious doubts he could win the general.  The poorly run primary makes me think he couldn't win, and that I was right to have my doubts.

The best candidate doesn't always win.

I still believe DeSantis is going to be the VP pick.

Sorry, but 'Not a Chance' that DeSantis will be Trump's VP.

(A) Trump doesn't want anyone on his team who will show up smarter, better organized and gets things done Vs. him.

(B) Anyone with any brains has seen how Trump treats "his team" and doesn't want any part of that if they have any other option.

Does "Hang Mike Pence" ring any bells?

DeSantis best play is to stay Governor of Florida - let 2024 run it's course and then organize a fresh run in 2028.

If Donald Trump wins, I hope his second term is a resounding success. I hope he sets a benchmark for what competent, effective, conservative leadership looks like. I hope he makes good on the things he promised 8 years ago.

If he does, I’ll give him credit.

But if he wins, and his 2nd term ends up being the dumpster fire we anticipate it will be, you’ll hear about that too. And the Trumpers will own it.

More like Trump didn't write READ the books of the Bible, but try again ...

Trump sure doesn't LIVE any of the Bible Either ...

Cheated on all three of his wives.
Paid a Porn Starlet from illegal funds.
Famous for not paying his bills
Bankruptcies leaving others to pay for his mistakes & poor judgement.
Lies anytime he opens his mouth.

It would seem kind of real important to have an honest & ethical leader, if anyone wanted to actually Make America Great Again.

Absent some sort of black swan event Trump will lose (again). Why? Two words: “Silent Republicans”.

What is a “Silent Republican”? This is the 10%-20% of Republicans who voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020, but won’t be voting for him again in 2024.

They’re “silent” because they won’t dare publicly acknowledge that they won’t be voting for Trump. They understand that over the last few years the GOP has become overly tribal and cult-like such that publicly saying “I won’t vote for him again” is likely to get them excommunicated from social circles. If not worse. So they’ll simply say nothing. While not voting for Trump.

Mark my words, in November the vast majority of people (including and especially pollsters) won’t have seen this coming. And with Trump’s embarrassing and historic 2024 loss, the 2016 Faustian bargain will be complete. The GOP will have done nothing less than sold its very soul and reputation for Donald Trump…and get precisely what they deserve for doing it: almost nothing but regret.

Trump will quickly fade away (or into prison), and 10 years later you’ll have trouble finding anyone willing to admit they were ever card-carrying members of the MAGA cult.

The good news (hopefully) is that the GOP will then determine it’s difficult to “own the libs” if you can’t win important elections in the first place, and they’ll be forced to reckon with the dark impulses that led them to Trump way back in ‘16.

It’s all so predictable. And always has been to anyone who’s really paying attention.

Can I ask an honest question?

Why is it that some people who you claim have TDS present legitimate issues with Trump and his character and the best replies to it are something like what you posted?

Can you not present an equally legitimate rebuttal? Or is it a defense mechanism to babble inanities when presented with fact that challenges everything you believe in?

I'd really like to get an answer on it.

It’s not about the affairs. It’s not about selling bibles. It’s not even about the bump stocks.

So you wouldn't vote for a Catholic because the leader of their Church is somebody that some people call a communist? When it isn't in their power, as a lay person, to change who the Pope is?

Donald Trump has literally and unapologetically committed six of the “seven deadly sins” within the Christian faith.

When a person like that starts promoting the Bible (for profit, I’d add), does the phrase “cognitive dissonance” start entering the picture?

We live in an interesting time when a person like Mike Pence - a sincere man of the Christian faith - is considered the ‘bad guy’ by a majority of Evangelicals, and a person like Donald Trump - who I suspect is as much of a Christian as Chairman Mao was - is considered by a majority of those same Evangelicals to be America’s savior.

Weird. Super weird. And these same fools are often wondering, “Why don’t people take us seriously or give us more respect??”

Where does the bible, that Trump is selling, categorize the seven deadly sins?

While the specific naming of the seven deadly sins is from Pope Gregory I, this handy little page pulls from Sacred Scripture examples of the dangers of each. So I guess if you're not Catholic, you don't necessarily need to care about the Church teachings

I am a sinner, too. But I also wouldn't be selling Bibles that had my name and endorsement on them, or include secular texts with Sacred Scripture.

I overreacted to a separate event and read into it things that weren't there. Staff here has a tough job balancing open expression with maintaining orderly conduct by members. I should have walked outside and touched grass instead of clicking "submit" and I'm sorry I posted it.

I do object to Dirt's characterization of my consistent Trump criticism as "trolling." Trump has done plenty that is legitimately worthy of criticism, and I think I've grounded my critiques reasonably well.

This story was published yesterday and seems related and a little disturbing:

"More than half of Republicans see former President Donald Trump as a person of faith, a higher percentage than those who said the same of more vocally religious politicians such as former Vice President Mike Pence and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), a recent poll found."

Lack of quadruple criminal indictments?

Remember back in the day when being a candidate for any political office - much less POTUS - while juggling multiple criminal indictments would have been immediately disqualifying?

I do.

During his 2008 presidential campaign, Edwards was caught in a sensational sex scandal involving an illicit affair with a campaign aide, Rielle Hunter, which resulted in a child. Despite initial denials, the affair and the subsequent cover-up efforts, including financial aspects potentially involving campaign funds, were exposed. Edwards' admission of paternity for Hunter's child came after he had already suspended his presidential campaign in 2008.

John Conyers: In 2017, John Conyers, a Democratic Congressman, resigned from Congress amid allegations of sexual misconduct. Conyers denied the allegations but faced pressure from both parties to step down.

Gary Hart: In 1988, Gary Hart, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, faced allegations of extramarital affairs and drug use. Hart initially denied the allegations but ultimately ended his campaign due to the scandal.

They just weren’t as good as liars as Trump. They should have spun it that the deep state was after them and they were the only ones who could save America! They also forgot to charge party affiliation. Amateurs.

I do.

The GOP’s standards (such as they exist) have hit rock bottom.

Looking back at those scandals (and there have been plenty of others) from a 2024 lens now almost appears quaint.

Remember the slogan from the Bill Clinton impeachment days: “Character counts!” (Well, unless it’s my guy’s character. At which point I’ll engage in all manner of mental gymnastics to argue character doesn’t matter at all.)

I personally think we don't don't need your kind. I bought one of the Bibles.

People who pawn goods at a pawnshop hock them. That’s why such places are sometimes called “hock shops.”

Vendors who proclaim aloud the availability of their goods on the street hawk them. Such people are called “hawkers.”

The latter word is used metaphorically of people or businesses aggressively promoting anything for sale. They are not “hocking their wares” (or worse, “hocking their wears”), but “hawking their wares.”

Lol. I used a dictionary and looked up the word Hock. You went to some eggheads website and tied yourself in a pretzel to justify your misuse of the english language.

Go to any dictionary.

Hock; another term for pawn

Hawk; any of numerous diurnal birds...

So Mirriam Webster wins this one.
