These threads are starting to pop up everywhere, one going on now in the AK section of this website.

I did some quick checking and here is what I posted in that thread:

Dunno, seems like just one person on IG saying it. Others have called (today in fact) and KUSA says it's not true.

But looks like they did miss a couple of court-ordered settlement payments to INDO-MIM the last two months. (the fuck, MIM parts? cripes)

No more internet sales, no press releases since mid 2022, no blog entries on their site since mid 2023.

Still just rumors, but doesn't look too healthy.

They posted on Facebook and Instagram this morning.

How can you go out of business taking pre-order money and never shipping any products?

Probably by spending all the cash and not paying your suppliers for the goods. Even if those goods are still sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

Good.  Nothing to do with US jobs lost.  Everything to do with inferior product going away...

PSA has lost a competitor?

Never like to see a firearms company go under, but competing directly with PSA has to be really difficult.

There has been several firearms/firearms accessories businesses that have done just that.

I didn’t keep up with them too well, but the whole company seemed like clown shoes.

Maybe @PalmettoStateArmory can buy them out and make 100 series rifles.

big thread on r/ak47

there was a document posted about them not paying payments or something.

not sure if true. I highly doubt KUSA is going under though.

Certainly no worse than PSA's AK quality.

Doesn't PSA?

No - the most obvious difference is the 4.5mm rear trunnion of the PSA vs the 5.5mm of the KUSA - modern Izhmash 100 series AKs use the more inline 5.5mm rear trunnion (the stock is angled more on the 4.5 version - what older AK74s used). PSA's version is close, but KUSA's guns are even closer.

It really isn't that big of a day unless you're an AK nerd like myself - those little details are important.

Also, KUSA was the only game in town making exact copies of the Vityaz 9mm AK (KP9).

They also had plans to make an AK74M clone (which again, nobody else is doing right now).

He certainly seemed to be angling a job at KUSA post PSA firing. A few of his psa firing aftermath posts on Instagram were direct shots specifically at the AK-V and how superior the KP-9 is/was, which I assume it is but the posts were defiantly "look at me KUSA"

Maybe he was already hired? Idk the time line but there was a connection.

4.5 matches the Bulgarians (which works for me).

ETA: I should caveat that with: I consider KUSA and PSA as a different class of clones compared to the foreign built clones. They could be perfect down to the last rivet, but….

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with 4.5 (my SLR-104FR is 4.5) - it's just extremely rare in the States to find manufacturers building the more modern 5.5 variants - KUSA being one of them.

The current PSA products are not really 100 series.  They are closer to AKM internally.  Fat stem bolts, no bump rivet, 4.5mm folders.

My KP9 has been 100% reliable. It's one of my favorite guns. Never had any issues with the bolt but sent it to them last year anyway to be replaced.
