Christmas Day evening.
Shitty phone pic of the shitty IL city I was born in.
Great night to fly with my son, though.

Chambers Island and 30WI.

One summer I was at the island on the 4th of July. We we on a boat anchored off the beach north of the field. All the boaters (drinks in hand) walked to the runway at a certain time for a parade. The locals drove down the runway in a selection of old trucks and Jeep’s (many with their doors removed) that were decorated as makeshift floats. It was awesome.

One of my solo cross countries on an early morning.   I was headed north out of KWEA, looking back east at Fort Worth.  En route to Bowie, TX (0F2).

Ever get up around Grayson county and Texoma Regional aka, Perrin field?
They have a very neat museum there with lots of history of the base from 1941 to 1971. Trainers from 41 to T-33s in the 50s and F102 and F-106 in the 70s with some NASA Mercury and Gemini training thrown in for good measure.

I need to check that place out!  I love the older aircraft and am always looking for someplace new to visit.

They are having a surplus item garage sale this weekend.

Cool place if you get the chance to check it out.  The Mercury and some of the Gemini astronauts did their water rescue in Lake Texoma. The exhibits they have of that fluctuates on what NASA will give them but it's still cool.
http://www.ntxe-news.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi?archive=41&num=66233

They are in the middle of a building phase that will almost double the size of the building.
My Dad was a civil service electrician there in the early to mid-60s when the base was T-33 and F-102/106 aircraft. The yearly air shows were stunning!

It's a 30 minute stop but most of the folks working there were stationed there at one time or another and are a hoot to talk to.

I highly recommend it.

Landing our newly restored C-152 125 HP Sparrow Hawk at Panama City Beach International Airport (ECP). My passenger was one of the owners of the Czech Republic flight School and this was the acceptance flight. Aircraft was shipped in 2020 and put in service at their school  July 2020. I took my boys flying the other day.  They're 10 years old.  We flew about 90-100 miles to a small airport and got ice cream.  I've been taking them once or twice a year since they were 4, but with the china-flu, we didn't go last year, so it was good to get back up with them.

Good luck, I hope you end up in another airplane that you enjoy flying.  Doubt the mission will be as cool as your old one (towing targets, right?).
