I picked up S1 in a DVD set at a flea market and I'd have to say going into the last episode this has been an excellent watch. Does it keep up the quality? I'll probably grab the rest of the seasons at the same flea market if it does.
P.S. Little Wallace getting smoked was a bummer. Sure they saved the tax payers a lot of future incarceration costs most likely. but it seemed like maybe he could turn it around. But as we know snitches get smoked with a Beretta. Proof that you should stay out of the city and in the country. |

It does. Probably the best tv series ever produced in my opinion.

Season 2 is mediocre, it's the season that involves the union workers at the docks. You'll still need to watch it because it frames the rest of the show. Season 3 - 5 and it gets back to Season 1 quality.
The Wire and Entourage are my favorite HBO series. |

For the most part, yes. You have to understand going into it though, that the focus sort of changes every season. Still (mostly) the same main characters, etc, but each season has a different “theme”, I guess you could say. Season 2 is more about longshoremen (or dock workers or whatever), another one has more of a focus on the school system, etc. Some people think it kind of jumps the shark a little in the last season (no spoilers), but I didn’t think it was that bad really.
It’s not quite Breaking Bad (where it arguably gets progressively better every season, and truly ends at the apex), but all 5 seasons are quite good / worth the watch IMHO. |

It's good, but nowhere near the top of the heap. The evolution of comms technology is kind of amusing. The series is 20 years old now. |

Great series. Didn't know where they were going with the school year season until it showed the cycle of the next gen of druggies, ganstas and the lucky one that got out.
McNulty's self-destructive behavior as a detective to straightening himself out as a simple patrolman then back when does detective work again. Michael B Jordan as a teen drug dealer Wallace. |

I gave it a serious try, but I really didn't think it was all that great.
My favorites of all time (in order): Breaking Bad The Sopranos Fargo (seasons 1 and 2) Better Call Saul All of the recent StarWars series' (Mandalorian/Boba Fett/Obi Wan/Andor/Ahsoka) Homeland (especially the first few seasons) |

Factor in it also has one of the worst distractingly bad characters ever in a major show cluttering up scenes (Calamity Jane), and its not even close. Hell, she was the Jar Jar Binks of the West. I will say this, though, I thought Deadwood was a lot better than The Sopranos. |
