Went plinking last weekend,. Medium snow fall/ wind.  Temps- 30 ish.

Had to switch to irons because of lens fog.

Any thing I can do to maintain clarity better than having some sort of wipe?

Antifog, wax, spray, rainx, spit, lens caps?

Ambient temp equalize?

Did the fog occur shortly after you removed the optic from a warmer place such as the interior of your vehicle?

Interested in info. letting the gun get cold and stay cold when possible helps. (put in truck bed on the way to hunt or the range, leave it outside, etc)

I've breathed wrong and fogged rifle scopes deer hunting, and it's usually cold up here from Oct-April. I've bought cat crap(eta this is something you can try, buy at Walmart or Amazon) but haven't used it. Last time I went out with rifles in 0 , I never had a problem, but that was all of the bench.

I may have read a story on Simo Hayha  (Finnish wwii sniper dude) and he preferred irons due to scope fog, but that was 85 years ago for scope tech. Anyways, it's a reason I went with 45  offset irons on my defensive rifle. Probably over the top/LARPy, but it makes me feel good.

Watching people with glasses in the winter up here, I'm pretty sure lens fog (condensation) occurs going from cold to warm.

Breath carefully
Let the rifle and scope cool off before

I hunt during winter with scopes and sometimes scope will fog no matter what you do.

I use see thru caps on my deer gun scope, that way if I breathe wrong and it fogs I can pop them open and still be good for the shot.

Been there elk hunting in snowy weather.  I used to just keep the caps down and hope to pop them up when I had a shot.  Missed an easy elk that way, close and fast.
Now I have good QD scope rings and pull the glass when snow flies and use irons.

Let it acclimate.

Oh and thermal!

Cat crap and a lens pen are my solutions.

Get better optics and hit the gym so you aren’t breathing so hard

If it’s cold or humid or both, keep the caps closed and let the cases rifle/optic cold soak for a while to come to temp. Don’t bring it anywhere warm until you’re done for the day, then caps closed, cased up, and let it warm soak for a few hours before putting away. Reduces stress and condensation.

It’s also good for camera gear in -50f.

Depending on your scope, Hoya makes some filters for cameras that fit your objective lens and have coatings that don't fog, repel water beads, and if you use the polarizer it can dramatically improve imaging quality (especially through glass). I use them on my NXS and will never be without.

Keep your scope/rifle cold.  In winter hunting, I leave guns outside for the season.

An arfcommer (sorry I've forgotten who, it was someone sending magazines in Jan 2021 during my mag bet) sent me a few Zeiss Anti-Fog Wipes , and I really like them for hunting, plus general use.

Like the others have said.
Cat Crap
My local walmart sells this in the eye glass area, so worth checking out.

Run Bushnells with rainguard. Not sure why that didn’t catch on more.

I can breathe on my scope and it makes the droplets so small you can still see thru it.

Kinda like how waxing works on a car. Just much smaller droplets even with fogging.
