Playing around with my Nikon 500mm f/8 mirror lens.  Once you get used to the quirks, it's a pretty awesome lens.   Minimum focus distance shot across my deck.

not yet, that's just a cropped JPG. I have a RAW, but I haven't messed with it today. I have more from today to check, too.

That's just an APSC 12Mp camera with a full frame 300mm.

I'm finding that noise becomes much more pronounced when you start cropping.  I know that's the nature of the beast, and I'm by no means complaining.  Besides, it IS ISO 4-freakin'-thousand.

That pic above is uncropped with minor sharpening and light exposure/tone/vibrance only.

Here it is cropped to half the pixel dimensions (25% of original size), no other post except as above.  600mm, 1/500, f/7.1

Your aurora photos are really cool. It's one of the things I want to make sure I get one day.

I find that second photo really engaging.  The city glow, if thats what it is really highlights the  trees and then you start to notice all the stars in the sky. Very cool.
