Possibly the best currently touring band, in the best venue in the country (and I've seen shows from Maine to Florida, California to Virginia, in all kinds of places).

This theatre, know to us who grew up in Richmond as The Mosque, due to it's middle-eastern motif (and there's all kinds of funky tile mosaics inside, which I forgot to get a picture of), is now known as the Altria Theatre.  Phillip Morris bought it about 20 years ago, and just couldn't have it be named after a muslim church (so as not to offend the sensibilities of our muslim terrorists) so they renamed it the Altria.  But if you're from around here, it will always be known as the Mosque.  If you know, you know.

It's simply a phenomenal place to see any kind of theatre or music event.  Not a bad seat in the house.  Excellent acoustics.  Staff very friendly, and they even have a smoking area set up for us out in the alley.  I probably saw my first even there at the age of 8, some piano concert, and fell in love with the place.

I would love to see them one of these days but current ticket prices are a bit out of my reach.
There are a number of old movie theaters from the 30s and 40s in the Dallas area that have become outstanding small music venues. It's a trend I hope spreads across the country.

Today I set a new record, for timber volume per acre.

To date, the best stand I've ever seen was running about 225 tons per acre.  That's 9 tractor-trailer loads per acre of timber.

THIS stand, however, has 313 tons per acre.  That's pretty much at the biologic limit for loblolly pine; this stand is starting to fall apart due to overstocking (too many tree, pines compete with each other, overstocked stands can collapse).  That's about 12.5 loads per acre.

I'm floored.  Seriously.  These trees are all running 16-18" in diameter, and the shortest tree I measured today was 97 feet tall.  Most in the 110-115 foot range.

That's YUUUUGE.

Thanks,   slow incremental improvement.  Also my dog was a cheap affordable model when I first started adding light for more than fill.

I spent 2 days there over the weekend, and then another day on my way back though town, and didn't notice that until doing post work the other day.

I told the lady of the house she could make a fortune wood burning that into $3 Wal Mart wooden spoons and selling for $30 on Etsy.

But, photo a day!

Sometimes the light's all shining on me...

And today we have another fish thief that showed up.  We have a nesting pair of geese again at the pond, and momma is on the nest, so pops was being vigilant as AA screen against the osprey.  Patrolling back and forth, back and forth.  Most of the time he's out in the field, just loafing.

Would have loved to see the osprey make a play for the goose, but he just sat there looking for fish and finally flew off.

It's always easier to dial in exactly what you lighting want in studio, but still takes an annoying amount of tries.   Maybe one day LEDs will be powerful enough and/or sensors will be sensitive enough I won't even need a bunch of strobe test shots while some poor model tries to stay in the exact same spot for a minute or more.  I've started moving them in relation to the lights until they're at the right spot, then marking the spot with gaffers tape.

This shot is probably okay since you can't see anything risqué but can delete if need be.

Years ago we got special permission from staff for a bit of latitude on the nude side of things as long as the expression is artistic as opposed to titillating.

It’s always a judgement call but your work always falls on the “good” side of the line.
