My 14yr daughter reads hundreds of books a year, we think she may have the tism like me. Any ways she stumbled onto The Pacific in the school library and read the book. I told her once she finished it we'd watch the mini series together.  So here we sit, binge watching The Pacific on a Saturday. We're currently 5 episodes in.

Her thoughts so far: "in the book it was hard to really understand how violent it was, in the series you really see it"

I bought the series on Blu Ray last summer, but haven't even watched it yet.

Thx for the reminder.

Eugene Sledge's book is a pretty good read.

Sledge's yes, wasn't a big fan of Leckie's writing style though

Maybe they will make a movie about it after the first USN ass kicking against China.

EP1 of BoB SuuuhhuuuUuuuCKKED!  The rest was phenomenal.

But so far, I'm not that impressed with The Pacific.  The whole Melbourne romance is just WTF drawn out.  If I want to watch Little Women making Fried Green Tomatoes writing in The Notebook, there are other options for that.

Maybe it gets better in Ep 4+... I hope.

The Pacific had a slow start.  I think it finished strong.

Next, have her read, "Goodbye Darkness."  Then the rest of Manchester.  Bummer he never completed Volume 3 of his Churchill bio.

Yeah, agreed, but Sledge was writing as an old man with decades of reflection and emotional healing. Sledge’s “China Marine” is also good in a different way.

The worst part about BoB is the fact it’s too good. It has set the bar so high that everything since, feels like it falls short. When judging world war 2 movies and series you have to omit BoB so that you can manage expectations.
