What would you all put on a .22 rifle? I’m thinking a 2-7x32 of some sort or maybe a 1-6x24. 3-9x40 are more plentiful but I’d like to keep it fairly compact.

I have a 2-7x32(ish?) Vortex Diamondback Rimfire on a .17HMR and it’s been a great hunting optic. Busted many tree rats with it. If it was primarily a target rifle I’d want more scope but for hunting it’s just right.

Hawke Vantage IR Rimfire. I LOVE their reticle. They offer high velocity and sub-sonic versions. I was actually just shooting steel at 200 yards with mine last week. The 3x can be a little much if you're squirrel hunting and one pops up at 10 or 15 yards, but on the flipside, when there's a squirrel at 50 yards, the 9x is really nice.

My choice is not the popular one, and that's reflected but the marketplace, but I've always been a fan of a fixed 4x scopes.
And not just for .22s. |

I have a Mannlicher stocked .22 with a 1.5-5x that I shoot squirrels with., another 452 FS shooter, it’s stupidly accurate, more so than the 452 varmint I have a general purpose .22 bolt gun with a 3-9x32 I have a varmint barrel .22 with a 4-18x I have a heavy barrel 40x with a 6-24 |

Inside 100yds a Japan Weaver 1-3x is great, love mine, great balance on the gun. A Leupold 1.5x4 or 5 should be nice too and still lightweight. A PA 1-6x 22 reticle is good too but these are heavier.

They can easily go out to 200. 300 is not uncommon. It sounds like a 1-6 would be great for your application. |

I have a Weaver 4x on my trusty M44. I don't see the reasoning behind a variable on a .22 unless it is a .22 magnum.

I have a Rossi Rio Bravo that i am going to put a Leupold VX freedom 2-7×32 with the rimfire moa reticle on. I wanted something light but good for that rifle and at 11.1 oz that fits the criteria perfectly. Ive looked through one at a local shop and the glass seemed pretty good. Ive taken that rifle out to 300 yards with the fiber optic sights that it has on it from the factory and made hits on the target.

.22lr has a lot of drop within 100 yards. If you want accurate shots, you'll want the ability to dial elevation, or at least a reticle that will let you hold over.
I have 6-24 scopes with FFP reticles on my .22 rifles. They were set up for NRL22. But the same system that gets you accurate shots in competition will work in the field. |

Leupold VX freedom series are good.
The Sightron S1 hunter 3x9 is also a excellent rimfire scope and cheaper than Leupold. Both run $180-240 but worth it. |

Rimfire drives you to a scope with a very short minimum focus distance. Many centerfire scopes don't focus below 50 yards, which is too far away. This is so important, use the minimum focus distance as a criteria to filter out unacceptable scopes.
If it were mine, I'd get this - Leupold 3-9X40mm AO EFR (adjustable objective, extended focal range), $400 |

Personally I’d consider fiber optic iron sights. That said a 1-5x or a straight 4x or something like that. |

Otherwise, something designed as a rimfire scope where Parallax is set to 50-60yd |
