NEAR DISASTER | Multiple planes Cross Runway WHILE ANOTHER IS TAKING OFF! |

I hate when they use a different frequency/controller to clear traffic across an active. It’s pretty common though. That was a big screwup.
Most people have no idea how complex and dynamic the taxiing is at busy airports. Typically, it’s the hardest part of the flight. |

You cannot hear their calls. Not ideal. I have seen some T-34s waaaaaay too close. |

As I interpret the audio, it sounds like two different local controllers issuing crossing instructions to one runway. SMH... |

I can't imagine pushing the throttles to the TOGA setting on your fully loaded aircraft after being cleared for takeoff and seeing 3 planes start crossing the runway in front of you.

View Quote You push them up only about 30% then push TOGA button. And you do kinda imagine it each time. That’s why the Swiss pilot was so calm and collected. He had been watching for it. They rejected before 80 kts, IOW, they rejected almost immediately. Thank God they were in good visual conditions, it really coulda been bad if they weren’t. |

Listen to the video. Both controllers are good, they just screwed up somehow. Probably a shift change and complacency. |

Swiss handled the RTO well but sure seemed eager to get going again right after that. There ain't no way we'd be able to get back in the game that quickly. Not even if it was a low speed RTO. If it's a high speed, then we may very well be going back to the gate. If it's a high speed in a desirable location then there's a good chance we're going back to the hotel/home. Fuck this "get us back in line ASAP for a reduced runway length takeoff" shit. LOL.

Swiss CPT probably figured the intersection would give him better visibility down the runway! |

View Quote Probably because it's the only thing pilots HAVE to do themselves... the plane can do practically everything else on it's own if you let it. But if they installed conveyor belts on the runways and taxiways to move the planes around for the pilots, the planes would never get off the ground. |
