The man behind the infamous “dress that broke the internet” has reportedly admitted to strangling his wife, nearly a year after he was arrested and charged with attempted murder. The Guardian reports that Keir Johnston, 38, pleaded guilty on Thursday to attacking his wife, Grace Johnston, in their home on Scotland’s Isle of Colonsay on March 6, 2022. After Grace defied her husband’s request not to attend a job interview on the mainland he is said to have texted her saying, “Someone is going to die.” When she returned home her husband told her he was leaving her with prosecutor Chris Macintosh telling a court that Keir Johnston grabbed his wife and threw her to the ground. “He placed both knees on her arms, so she was unable to move. He then began strangling her with both his hands. She was initially able to scream and feared for her life and believed Johnston intended to kill her as he was very forceful.” His lawyer, Marco Guarino, said Johnston had accepted responsibility for the assault. The couple became famous when Grace’s mother, Cecilia Bleasdale, purchased a dress for their wedding in 2015 but they disagreed over whether it was blue and black or white and gold. It sparked global debate with people split on the true colors of the dress. Johnston will be sentenced on June 6.

I always thought strangling meant that the person died. Choking seems more appropriate since the dick head lacked the grip strength or conviction to finish.

No, strangulation is external, like an attacker’s hands, or somebody got something tight wrapped around their neck that restricted breathing. Choking is an internal blockage that restricts breathing, like food, or a penis.

I was feeling sorry for Chris too. Imagine you’re home on a Saturday after a hard week prosecuting lads for crimes against sheep, you’re sipping a twelve-year-old McTingle single malt, having an ale watching the Edinburgh FC football match, you’re wife is ironing your tartans while Mum cooks a haggis, when suddenly, some bloke shows up and drops off an unwanted woman.  Your wife is like, “what’s this about then?” But all you can think is “not this shite again.”

Now I have to go read up on why it looks different to different people.  Maybe it’s something about different video displays.

ETA:  Just came back to this thread, and now it looks white and gold.  Assuming OP didn’t change the pic to mess with us, that’s freaky.

ETA2:  and now it looks blue and black again.

The picture phenomenon was cool.

We were discussing it and had a friend over. I said it was white and gold. Handed my phone to her and she's like, "Are you playing a trick and changed the pic? I see (whatever the other colors were....I forget)

We really were seeing different colors on the same pic.

And the difference between strangle and choke is blood vs air.

"The term "strangling" means intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of a person by applying pressure to the throat or neck, regardless of whether that conduct results in any visible injury or whether there is any intent to kill or protractedly injure the victim; and..."

So what about when the same person sees both colors, on the same monitor?  I can look at it and see blue and black, and glance away, and when I look back it’s white and gold. And I’ve had others say the exact same thing.

Medically, "strangle/strangulate/strangulated" means the blood supply is cut off. Strangulated hernia or strangulated hemorrhoid.  Choke means you aren't getting air whether that's obstructed airway, or constricted airway.

Funny enough, they use the term "choke" in most martial arts when you're more likely strangling with bilateral carotid restriction. Some are a "get both" situation. However, there's a particularly nasty "choke" that bears down on the larynx with the inside edge of the forearm near the wrist. It fucking sucks. But, you don't pass out from lack of blood.

You seeing a very lightly blueish tinged white? That's usually what I see. Sometimes real white and gold. Rarely black and a more medium blue.

Has anyone ever explained this phenomenon?
