Neat - but I'm not a professional draftsman. For general purpose that you can put in your pocket and that won't tear through common and uncommon thin paper, .5mm is more general.
For me: https://davesmechanicalpencils.blogspot.com/2006/08/pilot-vanishing-point-h1005-mechanical.html?m=1 |

I write too hard to use a thin leaded pencil like that. I would be replacing leads at a furious rate.

I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me and say "You're next". They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals.

Haven’t tried one. Perhaps I should.
Staedtler 925 25-03 and Rotring 600 got me all the way through college, both in 0.3mm (best mm) |

However, these got me through engineering college and refills of the big eraser were needed often. I have hardly used mechanical pencils since then. View Quote is it spring loaded and cushy |

I have dozens that I used in college up to 1978 and on the job thereafter.
Adobe Illustrator put them all into retirement in 1988. Still have them, and boxes of other extinct art tools. |

For me, it's the McPencil. The best mechanical pencil. I even ask for extra McPencil lead refills and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.
One time I asked for McPencil lead refills and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly McOffice worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!". Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three lead refills. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McOffice store, I go there at least 3 times a week for office supplies and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for photocopies on the weekend, and maybe once a week for a USB drive when I'm in a rush but want great file storage that is affordable, fast, and can match my backup needs. |

Berol and Pentel's are what I used, maybe a Zebra or two in there.

I prefer to empty the lead out of my pencil as frequent as possible. And appreciate the thickest lead possible.
Definitely don’t like when the pencil is cushy. |

You spelled Rotring wrong.

No OP.
The best is the six buck Japanese mechanical pencil that automatically rotates the lead when you lift it off the paper. https://www.amazon.com/Uni-Writing-neatly-Mechanical-M5-5591P-1/dp/B06XV3W6CT |

I like the 0.2mm in 2B for art, but I find myself using the 2mm leads and a sanding pad to get a razor edge (Single bevel chisel profile) about the same width as a Pentel Razor 0.05mm pen, which is super picky but not for writing or moving quickly. When you get to that diameter, it can only put out so much ink so you need to go slower but the razor line is supremely fine. Downside is the Pilot Razor 0.05mm is Not waterproof and only partially light safe so it's not archival unless you treat it like art and not leaving it out in the light not behind glass.
The 2mm lead holders and sanding block is cheap, gives you hardness from 8H (more like a paper cutter than a pencil) to 12B (which flows like ink coming out of gel pen). With tip maintenance, you get a lot of life on super fine lines vs spending a crapload on 0.2mm or 0.3mm lead refills which only come in HB unless you pay a crapload for 2B and you're till pretty hard and need to push firmly for a solid line. When I want the darkest, I use Faber Castell Carbon Matte wooden pencils. I can't justify the even less shiny Blackwing Matte having to buy a dozen at a time for $3 each pencil when I only need the 3 for $12 ($4) Faber Castell for rare true black pencil line work (rather than shading which a carbon powder rather than graphite works excellent). I'm hoping somebody will release the shine free carbon composition in the 2mm lead holder format soon, though. Right now they're proprietary and cost more than colored pencils (which are insanely priced for how fast you run through them and at $2/pencil per color and 120-200+ colors, it gets into ludicrous range where oil paints would be cheaper for similar sized work, just not the photo-realistic drawings the pros make with colored pencil. For every day use, UniBall EnerGel are by far my favorite. Sharpie S-Gel are ok but if you haven't used them in a couple days they skip until they realize they're being used for about the first 3 letters which is annoying s hell. Runner up is the Pilot Precise Gel Rolller Pen, doesn't have the nice feel that the UniBall provides, and 0.7mmm since I'm almost always on pepper on a hard surface rather than a pad. If writing on a pad, 0.5mm is best and makes about the same width line as a 0.7mm pen on a hard surface. For perfect shape, get a precision eraser: Tombow Mono Zero, both rectangular and round. It will pull all the graphite/lead off the paper and leave a fine line looking like it never had pencil on it so great for adding highlights.

The person who complains most, and is the most critical of others has the most to hide.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. |
Has anyone tried a Blick Premier? It has an all-metal barrel and looks like a decent pencil. It looks a lot like the Berol mentioned.
I have an older Pentel Kerry style that I like for use at home. |

From my observations the Dunning-Kruger Effect is 100% valid.

Pencils are made for people who make mistakes and need to erase their work.

I started with a red but will probably try a yellow after I lose the first one. Peak performance.
