In the early days of Quake III I always understood it to be short for 'giblets', so in my vernacular it's pronounced 'jibs'.

ive been playing video games since i was 3 years old and coaching my mom and dad through Super Mario brothers.

I've heard dumb shit spouted in related to gaming and "gibs" has never been part of that dumb shit until now.
