Seems like a solid lawsuit to include hassle, time off work, etc.

But with our retarded courts, the judge may not comprehend the lack of gas tank.

I know someone who has rented an EV from Hertz twice in the past, (even though it wasn't his first choice) and both times the charge was under 50%. Yet they expect you to bring the vehicle back with like an 80% charge I believe.

I rented a 3 from them last year.

It was the same as an ice vehicle- you agree to bring it back with a certain % charge I think it was like 75% or something. I just hit the last supercharger by the airport and buzzed it up and turned it in.

We have ICE and EV loaners. The ICE cars have to be refilled or we charge like $9 a gallon. EVs are free, bring it back at 1% if you want.

No one at the dealership understands that we’re paying to “refill” them

From the article:

This customer actually returned the car with a 96% charge, the same as they'd picked it up at.

"I'm not an automotive engineer, how can I be expected to decide if a car has a fuel tank or not?!?"

Also, isn't Hertz the one that was getting paying customers arrested for auto theft?

That is just dumb.

I rent a ton from hertz for work. I have taken teslas before.  I dont understand this stupidity.  If the tank isnt full or the charge isnt 80% or more, you just dont take the vehicle. It isnt hard.

On one rare occasion I have taken a vehicle with a less than full tank - they were out of cars. I spoke to them before I left, they credited me even before I left the lot.

I rented a Tesla at Hertz and returned it with 20% charge, I was not charged any additional fees. I asked when I took it if it needed to be fully charged and they said no.

The word " Supercharger" has been in use for over one hundred years.

Serious question ... did it have an effect on your timeline/plans to get back to the airport?
Was it as convenient as filling up a gas rental, or did you have to allot more time for it because it was an EV rental? Thanks.

I figured, just don't like any rental companies, and have managed to almost never rent unless the government was paying.  In that case, fuck it.

Yeah fun story.

So I was flying to a ColaWarrior in Pennsylvania. We’ve been thinking about buying a Tesla, and I wanted to get more drive time with one.

The cost for this trip between the Tesla and normal cheapo compact was just a few bucks and I figured I’d save that in fuel any way. I also wanted to get something big enough to camp in.

I charged it part of the way to my destination and again right before my destination. Geissele range is semi remote. I charged in the reverse order when leaving.

We just picked up a used Model S a few weeks ago. So far I’m loving it, and it will be the best money I’ve ever spent if it doesn’t turn into a maintenance nightmare.

You gotta plan ahead a little bit on road trips, but ours will comfortably go 150+ miles. By the time you go hit the head, get a snack, and input your nav for the next stop, the car is ready to go. It’s our default vehicle for daily driving and few hundred mile road trips.

Hertz is a garbage company, and this is probably the least egregious thing I have heard about them doing.

There are dozens and dozens of instances where people spent days or weeks in jail and/or court because Hertz rented them a car and immediately reported it stolen days or weeks prior to scheduled return.  They usually double down in those cases as well.

Guy I worked with rented a car at an airport, used it to go to a hotel about 10 miles away, stayed there overnight, then brought it back to the rental company the next day. The car never showed under completely full, but since it's the .gov paying for it, he filled it up with the gallon and a half or so that it took.

After he turned it in, they tried to charge him for about 3/4 of a tank of fuel. He called and they tried to refuse to fix it unless he "had proof" that he filled it up. Well conveniently, when you use a government fuel card it requires you to input mileage of the vehicle when you use it, and he kept the receipt for reimbursement, so they had to eat crow on that one. But it took a lot of work to get them to fix it.

Now I keep my fuel receipt and take a photo of the dash showing the mileage and the full tank status when I turn in a car at a rental.
