A lot near my farm has a 2011 Ford F150 5.0L V8 4X4 with 233,000 miles.

They’re asking $7999 for it. It’s in good shape physically body, paint etc. Newish tires. Tow package with brake box.

Anyone have any experience with this year model?

Mileage seem high?

How reliable is this model especially the 4X4?

Any known maintenance issues you can think of?

This will just be a backup truck for farm duty going to town occasionally type stuff.

I have a 2012 with the 5.0 4x4. 190k nearly trouble free miles. But I drive like a grandma.

Is this in the year range where the spark plugs snap off when you try to replace them?

Pass there's a reason someone finally got rid of it. Especially if it still looks pretty good.

Most of the time that 200k mark on a truck is the beginning of the end.

Not always of course, but on anything that's been well used it's nearing the time when it's going to cost you something really expensive to fix or just break in half.

Seems to be the majority opinion here so I guess I’ll keep looking!

Cam phasers are an issue.

Wrong engine.  That was the 5.4 3V, from 2004-2008 engine year models.  And really not that big of a deal.

320K on my 03 F250. Replaced the injector cups at 225K.  That all I’ve ever had to do to it.

8k for a 15 year old truck with a quarter million miles?

If it was a dump truck maybe

The 2011 5.0 was a good engine.

Thats a good price, but there might be a reason.

The mileage would not bother me if I was getting the truck cheap enough, to be able to handle a replacement engine down the road.

The cheapest price for ANY 5.0 4x4 2011-2012 F150 around me is $15,000

If you picked this up for 8k, you could drop a reman engine (when the time comes) in there with a good warranty and drive it a long time, if everything else is in good shape.

Obviously in Ohio we have salt so that might factor in.

Lots of guys still asking covid prices but they're sitting. Truck's and vehicles on the used market are coming down up here.

My son paid 5k for a used 2015 Silverado with 120k last year all though that might be apples to oranges.

The rust would be my biggest concern or sure.  We dont have that problem in TX so prices are much higher here.

Your son got a smoking deal!

So it’s the engine where they blow out going down the road?

Hard to keep track, every engine they’ve made since 2001 or so is trash.

Blowing out plugs was the older pre-2004 5.4 2V engines.  Those were good engines and lasted a long time.

The IWE 4wd actuators will be garbage. Dorman has a delete kit.

If the miles and price don’t scare you go for it. Rust would be the killer.. and just because the body is clean doesn’t mean the frame isn’t crumbling.

I'm probably going to up my price range to $20,000 from $10,000 and start looking hard at the used car lots for something more robust.

I do need a good pickup but maybe I need to move away from just a farm beater truck to something newer that'll last me a good long while and I can use it for more daily activities.

If that truck hasn't had a timing job yet. It will, or already does, need one. Deduct 2k and then okay.

That was the first thing that popped up on a google search was the timing issues in that truck after 200,000 miles.

Pretty much all ford F150 engines made since 2004.
