Florida man is a lifestyle choice. It involves flip flops, board shorts or cargo shorts, and wife beaters with Hawaiian over shirt unbuttoned. And a big ol full size handgun. And I'm not talking about firearms folks.

the real reason is that florida requires newspapers to publish crime stories, so you end up with ridiculous headlines. AlabamaMan does similar shit but it's not so easy to share

My daughter has lived her entire life in Florida. She's in Australia for study abroad right now. The other international students got a laugh when the Aussies tried to beat her up about being from Florida and she responded that the were just Florida with a fucked up British accent.

Florida Man started with linked news articles of weird and gruesome shit. The articles would always start with "A Florida Man". They got progressively worse over time. So whenever a weird gory crime happened in another state, members started posting "Beat that Florida Man" in response.

There's a term Floridaing as well and we had the Florida Man games this year that among other things had a Florida Man chase where actual Deputies in full gear chased Florida Man thru an obstacle course.
I wish I could find the video, but there's a a good example of Floridaing which involves a guy on his hoverboard riding down the street with his girl on the hoverboard facing him holding on to a bag of groceries with their pet python wrapped around the two of them. Floridaing |

Florida Man is not the hero we need, but the hero we deserve.
I spent two months in the panhandle for work, so I had some dealings with a few Florida Men. One of whom managed to piss on the front door man's kiosk/desk thing at a strip club WHILE TALKING TO SAID DOORMAN. He finished up his conversation, zipped up, and told me it was time we left rtfn. I never got a clear answer why he did it, beyond general Florida Man hijinks.
