Lord Jesus, your love and mercy knows no bounds. Give me strength when I am weak, hope when I am discouraged, peace when I am troubled, consolation when I am sad, and understanding when I am perplexed. Make me an instrument of your love and peace to those who are troubled and without hope.

"Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn't be there. Eighty are just targets. Nine are the real fighters, and we are glad to have them. For they make the battle. Ah! But THE one! The One is a WARRIOR, and he will bring the others home." -Heraclitus

Sometimes I use the day’s reading.
Brethren, We are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh; for if you live according to the flesh, you shall die but if by the Spirit you mortify the deeds of the flesh, you shall live. For whoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For you have not received the spirit of bondage again in fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption of sons, whereby we cry, Abba (Father). For the Spirit Himself gives testimony to our spirit, that we are the sons of God and if sons, heirs also, heirs indeed of God, and joint heirs with Christ. Romans 8: 12-17 |

|
"Lord Jesus, fill me with Your Holy Spirit that I may grow in wisdom and knowledge of Your love and truth. Free me from stubborn pride and willfulness that I may wholly desire to do what is pleasing to You."
|
|
|
"Heavenly Father, You bless us with many relationships and You invite us into the community of Your sons and daughters who have been redeemed by Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help me to love my neighbor with charity, kindness, compassion, and mercy, just as You have loved me. In all of my relationships, and in all that I do and say, may I always seek to bring You honor and glory."

De Profundis
Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice. Let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. If Thou, O Lord, shalt observe iniquities; Lord, who shall endure it? For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness: and by reason of Thy law, I have waited for Thee, O Lord. My soul hath relied on His word; my soul hath hoped in the Lord. From the morning watch even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord. Because with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him plentiful redemption. And He shall redeem Israel from all her iniquities. Eternal rest give unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. Let us pray. O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of Thy servants departed the remission of all their sins, that through our pious supplication they may obtain that pardon which they have always desired; who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen. |

Psalms 22
A psalm for David. The Lord ruleth me: and I shall want nothing. He hath set me in a place of pasture. He hath brought me up, on the water of refreshment: He hath converted my soul. He hath led me on the paths of justice, for his own name's sake. For though I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evils, for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they have comforted me. Thou hast prepared a table before me against them that afflict me. Thou hast anointed my head with oil; and my chalice which inebreateth me, how goodly is it! And thy mercy will follow me all the days of my life. And that I may dwell in the house of the Lord unto length of days. |

Originally Posted By Oldgold: Good prayers, but avoid vain repetition. Something we’re all guilty of. View Quote Good point. I like this thread. I saw a meme that had a person kneeling at a prayer bench with their head bowed down in silent prayer by themselves. With the caption "What we think happens when we pray". In the next frame was Jesus kneeling on the other side of the bench with his forehead touching the person praying with another caption saying "What actually happens when you pray" and then a small statement below said praying is like talking to Jesus. I sometimes get caught up in old dogmatic prayer and forget that I'm talking to God through Christ. |

1 Corinthians 10: 6-13
Brethren, let us not covet evil things, as they also coveted. Neither become ye idolaters, as some of them: as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed fornication, and there fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them tempted, and perished by the serpents. Neither do you murmur, as some of them murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer. Now all these things happened to them in figure, and they are written for our correction, upon whom the ends of the world are to come. Wherefore he that thinks himself to stand, let him take heed lest he fall. Let no temptation take hold on you, but such as is human: and God is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that which you are able, but will make also with temptation issue, that you may be able to bear it. |

Today’s reading
Luke 19: 41-47 At that time, when Jesus drew near to Jerusalem, seeing the city, He wept over it, saying: If thou also hadst known, and that in this thy day, the things that are to thy peace: but now they are hidden from thy eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, and thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee on every side, and beat thee flat to the ground, and thy children who are in thee; and they shall not leave in thee a stone upon a stone, because thou hast not known the time of thy visitation. And entering into the temple, He began to cast out them that sold therein, and them, that bought, saying to them: It is written, “My house is the house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.” And He was teaching daily in the temple. |

Lord Jesus Christ, almighty Father;
I ask that You comfort those who struggle in darkness, who are burdened with mental illness and depression. Be the light in the darkness and turn suffering into joy, be the hope needed to live a life of grace in Your name. Give strength in the fight to overcome endless sorrow, to dispel the thoughts of demons in broken minds so that all praise can be given to You, forever and ever, Amen. |

I listened to a Theology talk from the Thomistic Institute that always stuck with me, and I know for a fact I'm interchanging it with another talk about Francis and Aquinas. Instead of trying to pretend I can remember the exact verses from both, I'll simply give you my takeaways.
- Francis did not love animals. He loved THAT bird and THAT fox. There's an important distinction here. - There are some monks that just recite the same prayer every day, and some still who only say the same prayer repeatedly. - There are other monks who just went about their day trying to praise God for every gift that was given to them. (I really liked this idea) The entire idea is that if your mind is open enough to his splendor, you will basically be a state of constant praise. You cannot even go outside without praise, or even in a rainstorm "Thank you for the rain which will nourish the plants, and satiate the animals." - Even the virtuous pagans argued man was happiest when contemplating existence and purpose. Contemplation is another huge boost for my faith. The harder questions you ask, the better answers you get. It's okay if you get stuck to look up Aquinas or someone who has contemplated much much more than you for guidance, but the figuring it out in your own is the real gift. |

15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. View Quote This is an excellent contemplation. The easy interpretation would be you need to hate your life, everything sucks, our world is trash. But how could the creator of all goodness desire that? He doesn't. The contemplative answer is that God asks you to look beyond the world and into creation. Not look at your garden, but be in amazement of how your garden exists. |

I've been listening to the Confessions of Saint Augustine and this morning he was contemplating how God could create something(s) corrupted. Corruption implies something was good and became bad and that to be non corrupt would mean you are pure good, etc.. |

Heavenly Father, almighty Lord, I need Your refuge of strength;
I come to You this morning in humility, in fasting, and in reverence. My soul will not be a follower of earthly desires, with the strength of Jesus Christ I will abstain; As I withhold food from my body, give me the power to withhold sin from my soul. You are the only sustenance I need, You are the nourishment my heart burns for, You are my daily bread. Lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from evil. Amen. |

The Epistle for tomorrow, one of my favorites.
2 Peter 1: 16-19 Dearly beloved, We have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ; but having been made eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory: this voice coming down to Him from the excellent glory, This is My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased, hear ye Him. And this voice we heard brought from Heaven, when we were with Him in the holy mount. And we have the more firm prophetical word, whereunto you do well to attend, as to a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts. |

Thank You Holy Father for today. Thank you for Your Son Jesus Christ my Savior. Thank you for my Family and my dog. Thank you for all the blessings you have given me in this life. Gospel for today.
Matthew 17: 1-9 At that time, Jesus took Peter, and James, and John his brother, and bringing them up into a high mountain apart: and He was transfigured before them. And His face did shine as the sun, and His garments became white as snow. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking with Him. And Peter answering, said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here; if Thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles, one for Thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. And as he was yet speaking, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them; and lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying This is My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased, hear ye Him. And the disciples hearing, fell upon their face; and were very much afraid: and Jesus came and touched them, and said to them, Arise, and fear not. And they lifting up their eyes saw no one, but only Jesus. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, till the Son of man be risen from the dead. |

Most Holy and Adorable Trinity, One God in Three Persons, I praise Thee
and give Thee thanks for all the favors Thou has bestowed upon me. Thy goodness has preserved me until now, I offer Thee my whole being and in particular, all my thoughts, words, and deeds, together with all the trials I may undergo this day. Give them Thy blessing. May Thy Divine Love animate them and may they serve Thy greater glory. I make this morning offering in union with the Divine intentions of Jesus Christ Who offers himself daily in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and in union with Mary, His Virgin Mother and our Mother, who was always the faithful handmaid of the Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. Amen. |
