I don’t know what you’re doing wrong but it’s $3.30 a pound in south Texas.

You’ll get more if you strip the insulation off first.  - Scrapper 101.

Docs office near me has two giant air conditioners that are totally surrounded by a very heavy metal cage mounted in concrete and the largest padlocks I have ever seen.  The thieves will still get them if they really want to but I guess it did make it a little more difficult.

Around here they pay less, or won't even take it if looks burned.

I have one of these.

I've filled 4 gaylords with stripped #2 with this thing.

You need to expand your horizons when selling. My geographic area has suppressed payout pricing because there’s only 2 places around buying, and one of them bought out roughly 8 other scrap yards. The pricing offered between those 2 companies is so ridiculously low that I won’t deal with them at all.

There’s 2 reasonable places, one is 30 miles away and the other is 50 miles away. I found an independent scrap guy who will pay me the average of those two reasonable prices AND he’ll come to my house and scale it all right there in my driveway. He buys nothing ferrous. I check prices first and then call him. He’s had 100% of my business for about 10 years now.

Well, it's going to make motor and generator rewinds more expensive, as if that is not expensive enough as it is.

If I remember right, my price for 750 mcm is running around $24 a foot. We use a lot of 750.

What's to steal? A ground line and some hose? No copper there. It's like the anti drain valve crap. Keep pulling the handle.

Yup I just adjusted wire prices in my estimating software today. 3 weeks ago it went up 6%, early this week 3%. It's about the price as aug 2023, which is still down from 2021.

The bid pricing I got today, now my buy prices are lower if I buy a whole bunch.
